US Midwest 2023 Backroads & Bourbon

No worries, it's the company you keep on this run that makes it fun. Moserwood is a beautiful farm, but we had a blast at Taylorsville too.

Camping. If you want to get a hotel, you could just meet up in the morning at moserwood farms, but I find camping with this group of folks is the highlight of the trip.

Hey Brian, I know its short notice, but it looks like some people dropped out of a trip this weekend. This route will be pretty mild, gravel roads etc. The guy who organized it drives a full size Tundra. Here is the link if you want to check it out...

Relying on Paper Maps, Vehicle GPS, and Natural Instincts

Then paper maps are right for you. I have the dellorme maps for my state and find it a great resource. There are not a lot of people that can navigate with a paper map. That is a great skill to have. GPS has lead me astray too many times.

Relying on Paper Maps, Vehicle GPS, and Natural Instincts

I use Gaia for routing and tracking. That’s not what I use the Garmin for. The Garmin absolutely sucks for backcountry routing and general navigation. It excels in getting me from BFE to Napa when my Optima takes a dump. That’s why I recommend it as an intro for someone that is already adept at...

Relying on Paper Maps, Vehicle GPS, and Natural Instincts

Everybody keeps mentioning Garmin, but assuming you have a phone, Gaia, even the free version, allows you to upload GPX files and record where you have been. I think you can use it on android auto now as well.

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

I tuned the bumpstops and added spacers. I could probably move up to 33s , but would rather regear at that point.

Attended the Back the Byway event for the Daniel Boone Backwoods Byway. Had a blast on the Jeeps first outing. A big thanks to the Kentucky Toyota Land cruiser Association for organizing this event.

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

It's an automatic locker. It is all mechanical. It ratchets to allow the outside wheel to spin faster when turning. This is not my daily driver though. You can hear the ratcheting a little bit when turning at low speeds. I didn't even have to pull the carrier to install it. It works when...
