Start of the trail
First obstacle
Stock height Tacomas don't have great approach and departure angles.
The water crossing used to be possible in a stock...
We had a good time out on the trail. Sometime during the last two winters there was a major flood and the water crossing about 2 miles in has drastically changed and is much more difficult than it used to be. I'll post pictures once I get around to uploading them.
Fifty,
I have a CB in both my trucks, but in almost 20 years of wheeling I've never gone out with a group that used CB for communication, they all used FRS/GMRS. My recommendation is to get a decent set of FRS/GMRS radios since they are inexpensive. HAM radio appears to be becoming more popular...
One time I saw a Land Cruiser with the sides covered in blue painters tape on the Deer Valley Trail. I'm not sure how effective this would be, but it's fairly inexpensive.
Sounds good, I think if BRC can help summarize the issue and the suggested alternatives then many OB members would be happy to send in polite comments advocating for preserving vehicular access.
I've been an official commenter on several access issues in Northern California, such as reopening...
I might have posted the original thread in the wrong section, so I'm cross linking it here.

Thanks Todd,
I am happy to send in comments, I just want to make sure I'm consistent with the views of BRC and others who know more about this issue than I do.
@Navy-Jeeper , thank you for posting. As with most government processes there is a huge amount of documentation related to this issue. Can BRC provide a summary and an analysis of the proposed alternatives in the EIS? I think this would help people get to the core of the issue and educate them...
Here is the post for the Sourgrass trip if anybody is interested.

Two friends and I are doing a day trip to the Stanislaus National Forest off of highway 4 on Saturday 4/28. Our general plan is to run the Sourgrass Trail and then if time allows to explore Board's Crossing, Calaveras Big Trees, and other dirt roads in the area. Or, we could go farther up 4 and...
Since Hollister is closed for the day I might be running the Sourgrass Trail off highway 4 instead. If anybody is potentially interested in meeting up let me know and I'll start a new thread.
Unfortunately I've run into this exact situation a few times. In each case you have to make a judgement call on whether it is a good idea approach the group or not. In some situations people just don't know any better and there is a lot of value in talking to them, in other cases they are jerks...
Coincidentally, a friend and I are heading to Hollister on the 28th so he can practice his rock crawling skills. If you have FRS or CB perhaps we could meet up.
I found the article to be highly informative. For example, I didn't know that the members of Expedition Portal pioneered "overlanding" sometime around 2005 (back in the dawn of time). I'm not sure what we were doing before then, probably just offroading and camping because we didn't know any...
I haven't heard of any planned work dates at this time. In the next month or two I'll email the EDNF again for an update and will share what I learn here. I'm glad to hear that people are interested in helping to get this trail re-opened.
Overview
The Pardoe Trail in the El Dorado National Forest was closed in 2012 as part of the "42 Trails" lawsuit. While the lawsuit has luckily been resolved in our favor this trail and several others are still closed pending action by the forest service. This lawsuit is a good example of how...
