Irecently learned of Sam and Erica’s journey through the recent release of their overland application, iOverlander. After learning of the app, I looked at their website, “Song of the Road” and their adventure has been great to read as they travel through Canada, the United States, and Mexico. They log every destination, and provide information for would be travelers. From their blog:

We started bouncing around the idea for a very big trip. THE TRIP down the Pan American highway. It took us almost five years to save up enough money to do this. Sam was a software engineer and I was a sales manager for a Fortune 500 company. We worked VERY long hours and extremely hard knowing that we were working towards a pretty amazing dream. We lived below our means, rented instead of buying houses, bought used cars, did not buy anything we could not pay cash for and paid off all our debts including both of our student loans and credit cards. It was not easy, but worth all the hard work and saving.

Some people have asked the origin of our blog name. A few years ago I read a poem by Walt Whitman about traveling, it summed up perfectly life on the open road.

My favorite stanzas:
“I am larger, better than I thought,
I did not know I held so much goodness.”

“Will you give me yourself? will you come travel with me?
Shall we stick by each other as long as we live?”
