Our Story
Overlanding changes lives
Overland Bound was founded by Michael Murguia in 2010, after a series of life-altering events. He sold his fancy car, bought a trusty Land Cruiser, and pointed it at the mountains.
It changed his life.
Determined to make outdoor adventure accessible to everyone, he started a blog and wrote down a handful of founding principles. People agreed. The community grew fast. We recognize the potential for adventure to change lives. We believe it can change yours.

Our Mission
Leave it better than you found it
As we encourage people to trek down unpaved roads and explore remote places, we work just as hard to instill land-use ethics and good stewardship of lands both public and private.
Pack it out
Carry out more than you carried in. The simplest act of respect is also the most powerful, and it keeps trails open for everyone behind you.
Plan ahead
Research an area before you go so you arrive equipped to travel with minimal impact to the terrain and the people who call it home.
Give back
Volunteer time to clean up a place you love. Our Trail Guardian crews haul out trash and reopen trails so the land is there for generations to come.
We work closely with the US National Park Service, National Forest Service, and Bureau of Land Management to restore, repair, and reopen trails, and we are proud official partners of TREAD Lightly.
