It frustrates the hell out of me when certain individuals beg, steal, borrow or carry out any other underhanded trick to get to a position, only to do nothing when they get there.
@Defender 90 Keith

Feels like I'm reaching here but it seems someone has been in a situation, with someone else involving what you have described.
Hope all is well.

Do you think? You would imagine there would be a fair number of annoyed / frustrated people as a result wouldn't you. I guess we just have to get on with it and accept those individuals are out there with only themselves to think about.

That is when you have to remind yourself that only you should affect you, you can't let the wrongs of everyone else spoil your day. Take the positive if their is any, learn from it and move on as you have said. It is sad that more people don't take the time to consider others but in our day and age it has become a selfish and greed driven environment. They may reap the benefits of the wrongful things they have done to gain things in this life but does it truly make you happy and a better person? No, it most certainty does not. I blame these character traits on parents and the friends they allowed their children to have, I say start your kids young in teaching them the proper way to conduct yourself, and care for our planet. Discipline, Love, Responsibilities, and care shown in raising your children to be mindful of their surroundings will go a long way in ensuring they grow up to be better people. So that a lot of the terrible and sad situations that occur will be less. So I will say it again I think it all starts with the parents and the society directly influencing our children. Now some people just can't be helped and that's another matter lol.

Sorry to make that all drawn out and "deep" as some people might say. Literally just wanted to throw some encouraging words and some not lol your way and say enjoy your life and try as hard as it may be to not let others get you down.

There are people out there who do care, don't forget that. If that doesn't work for you, there is always exploring the wilderness lol. A quote my wife found and is a sticker on her Jeep is "I am most happy among the Tall Trees" I think it is saying something along the lines to find your inner peace and do so among nature since it is far more rewarding to the soul than the hustle and bustle of the city.

I'm not sure if you have picked up from other threads but I spent almost a quartet century in the Royal Navy. There are 2 qualities which I believe should be key (amongst other factors) to the successful running of any organisation. Those two factors are Teamwork and Communication. Without these then failures are imminent. The bottom line is as much as I thoroughly enjoy OB there are some bad eggs who seem intent on ruining it for others.

I have so many ideas on promoting OB within the UK but I'm not going to step on anyone's feet by suggesting.

My wife and I just had our first child 11 days ago so I might step away from OB for a while.

Yes I have seen your post on another forum about your service and I thank you even though it wasn't for the ole US of A lol. It was still for the idea of protecting what matters and that deserves respect. If you didn't also see I currently serve in the U.S. Navy for going on almost 8yrs now and will more than likely do 20yrs.

Anyways congratulations on your firstborn! Children are always the first priority in a family, the wife and I have two children so we fully understand! Don't let anyone tell you that your life is over when you have children, just the opposite. Also don't let them tell you that children hold you back cause they don't, take them exploring with you. It will give them memoires they will thank you for when they grow up.

On the contrary. I am looking forward to teaching him all I can. I have plans to take him to places and help him grow and develop the best way possible. I really can't wait to get him into my Land Rover and explore together.

Good to see that you're a Navy guy too. I served twice during my career with US Navy personnel. It was enjoyable.

Hey have you ever ventured across the pond to the UK? I've been to numerous places in the US but that has been with the Navy so wasn't given a huge amount of time to explore properly

Of course.
Most posts are very known to me.
But we dont have an Ambassador.
That will be a tough one, because we dont have native english speakers who are born, raised and with knowledge about the european situation.
Well, untill that moment we will manage anyway.

Europe, the old continent, mostly forgotten in the Overland scene.

Some regions have an Ambassador that you never hear from so it's pretty much the same scenario as yourselves.

It's on my to do list to nip across to Europe with my Landy And explore more. I hope I manage without an Ambassador

I fancy getting on one of the War Tours in Northern France as a way of trying to coax the wife into travelling Landy style. My list of places to go increases by the day.

I'll bear you in my if my exploits take me your way. Many thanks.

My offer to escort etc is also replicated but i live in the South West of England and don't see much in the way of Overlanders.

We are going to Verdun over a nice but easy route in the second week of september. Starting in Commercy on the thursday and arrive Friday at Verdun. Doing a sightseeing tour on saturday and heading back home on sunday. It is a tag along trip.

Second weekend in September I'm hoping to be at the LRO Show up country. It all depends whether the Commander in Chief approves of our new born to tag along (12 days old today)

Hmm so this listing for Western Europe is not correct? :
  1. West Europe (Formally UK) - @Kevigizmo
Thought it was your area, my mistake.

Nope, the UK is like Canada and the USA on the same continent, but different in many ways.
And I guess many in the UK would mean that the UK is a continent of its own.
So, we stick to the Mid-Europe. :innocent::joycat:

Hey Jim,

You can find the regions for Europe on the link below:
https://www.overlandbound.com/forums/threads/europe-regions.12899/

At present West Europe is the only one which has an Ambassador, as this was done pre-change (hence the comment on the original post Formally UK)
Robert is correct in the comment that Mid-Europe has yet to have an Ambassador

Cheers
Kev
