Overlanding mobile radio setup: side hobby or necessity?

No, GMRS does not require a license of any sort in Canada. GMRS in Canada is limited to 2w max power with a fixed/integral antenna (ie. Hand helds with fixed antenna). Technically, the US mobile units are illegal to use in Canada, however I highly doubt that there are radio police hiding...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Took my bumper skin off to be painted tomorrow. Got me thinking about how to mount a winch.

Overlanding mobile radio setup: side hobby or necessity?

If I lived in the US, assuming my wheeing buddies were going to do the same, I'd for sure use GMRS. It's awesome in the US, and very economical.

    Limited Space

I love the idea of using the visor clip screws as mounting points. Genius. I may have to make use of this concept at some point.

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Drove up to the Cheam Peak trailhead with my daughter and we hiked to the peak. Saw a sweet JDM CR-V at the foot of the mountain where the blacktop ends, too!

    Sportsmobile - Canada?

Call the CBSA business line and ask them to check the regulations. I can't recall exactly, but I believe that camper conversions are inadmissible to Canada, unfortunately, as per Transport Canada regs.

A Wander Up Fraser Canyon - In search of the past

Something I should mention that I forgot, part of Keefers Rd/Texas Creek Rd is marked with this big sign: There's no other way through to Lytton, and after some humming and hawing, we decided to beg forgiveness rather than ask permission and just drive through. We saw a work truck of some kind...

A Wander Up Fraser Canyon - In search of the past

On the way to Boston Bar, the next stop on our tour, we popped in to visit a gorgeous little campground called Anderson Creek, which included this nifty little spot by the river under the train tressel: At Boston Bar, where we would cross over to North Bend and begin the off-road portion of our...

A Wander Up Fraser Canyon - In search of the past

The next stop on our journey, which I nearly forgot, was the Alexandra Lodge: The Lodge, with its strange hodge-podge appearance, seems to be pieced together from bits of other buildings. There has been an Alexandra Lodge at this site going back a very long time, however, and apparently in its...

A Wander Up Fraser Canyon - In search of the past

After turning around and heading back down the FSR, we took a brief jaunt down the freeway and across the "new" Alexandra Bridge (if you call the 60's new) we found our way to the Old Alexandra Bridge Provincial Park. We parked the rigs and took a brief hike down a path that was actually once...

A Wander Up Fraser Canyon - In search of the past

Hello Overland Bounders! I thought I'd share a little 1 day adventure I just took with a good buddy of mine. Our objective was to explore the seldom-trodden paths of the famous Fraser Canyon. Having driven the canyon many times with my family as a child, I, like most folks, had really only...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Installed this bad boy and hooked it up to my CB. Now I have PA functionality! It's only an 8 watt speaker, but the way my CB works, the volume knob actually adjusts the PA output as well, so when I crank the volume, it's plenty loud. What am I going to use it for you ask? I....really don't...

Not a build as much as a resurrection?

Man oh man! Franklin is nothing if not interesting, isn't he? I would think that the window repairs ought to be fairly easy for someone with a welder and the skills to go with it. Maybe someone from OB can help you out. Love this thread! Hope Franklin gets fixed up and rides again soon. :D

Let's see those rigs in action

It does amazing. To be perfectly frank, it's gotten through and up and over stuff I actually didn't think it would before I tried it. On that snow day, it handled 10 inches of fresh powder on forestry roads like an absolute champ. Only got stuck one time, and that was only because buddy in the...

Fun little moment where buddy's taco started sliding down the hill toward my parked car. It stopped this far away...lol Pucker factor - extreme.
