I've done some checking around on Gaia and Google Maps, and I think if there is any potential way, I may have found it.
The problem is, the hikers found it first, I believe. It seems to me that Pashoka Pass from Ashlu A600 road going through the valley below Coin Lake and Sigurd Peak is the...
Something that hasn't been mentioned, though, is the traction advantage of FWD - having weight constantly over the drive wheels. I suppose I have the best of both worlds with the CRV - FWD most of the time until RT4WD engages, then 4wd while it's needed, AND near perfect weight distribution...
@wlld420 Good points. I also find your comment on weight distribution bias very interesting. It's a factor that I think is often overlooked, and perhaps underappreciated. Having a vehicle with nearly exact 50/50 weight distribution is probably an advantage that few take into account.
I heard about this intriguing little legend of BC, that there's a mysterious and well hidden 4wd track that somehow leads from Squamish area to Gibsons on the sunshine coast. Many tell stories of "someone they knew" who did it in their rusty old Subaru and such, but nobody seems to be able to...
Finally finished the rockers and with them all the plastic cladding on my rig. SO happy with how it turned out. Next is to buff out the pinstriping with some toothpaste and a microfiber cloth lol
Please forgive the crappy spare tire on the right rear - the replacement AT2 is coming in early...
Generally speaking, camping is permitted anywhere on crown land unless specifically disallowed. Crown land is anything not owned by anyone else (ie. not a provincial or national park).
There is a cracker of a free camp site I know of at Cheakamus lake that involves a bit of dirt road driving...
I love winter camping for all these reasons and the fact that off roading in snow is an absolute blast.
BTW, how do you like your folding camp kitchen? I've been eyeballing that particular one for some time thinking I might get it.
Finished painting all the trim except the rocker panel protectors. Those I decided to remove and paint separately, because they go under quite a ways, and they're especially dirty.
Going to let everything dry a bit, and then I might be able to put the bumpers back on tonight.
Removed the rear bumper and washed it all up ready to be painted tomorrow. I should be able to finish the two bumpers tomorrow as well as the side door bumpers, and if I'm lucky maybe the rocker guards and wheel arches too.
I found some nasty rust on the "step" metal that's concealed beneath...
CR-V does too. They tuned the tranny for a lower gear ratio in the low gears. It's for sure not as good as low range would be, but it helps some. Just gotta drive it carefully and not think you're in a jeep Wrangler lol
If it makes you feel better, my CR-V has no low range and it only has drums in the rear, and I've done some long, very steep descents with no dramas. Just use as much engine braking as you've got and feather the brakes instead of riding them, and you'll probably be fine. Make sure your pads and...
Yeah, that's basically exactly what I was thinking. There's already an opening in the stock bumper, as you can see, which is perfect for a winch placement, probably combined with a flip up license plate. A guy on youtube just braced the factory crash bar and mounted a winch upside down on it...
