We'll need something with a motor. We were thinking of trying to scoop a cheap 14' aluminum or perhaps an inflatable from craigslist. Something that can carry 3-4 guys and get somewhere a bit faster than a canoe, as the longest section of water is 33km one way.
I'll for sure keep you posted...
Added to my bucket list!
The "problem" with BC is that there are so many incredible trails and roads and back country to explore that you could spend a lifetime and not see it all! lol
The guy who organized the BC Overland Rally was the first to drive this highway with his buddy before it was even open. Awesome guy. He gave an outstanding story hour fireside talk about their journey on one of the evenings. Sounds like a spectacular trip. Best of luck to anyone who gets to go!
Agree! Awesome trip with a great write up. Every time I see stuff on the American desert areas, it makes me want to go there more.
I'll join you as one who loves lollygagging with history. I'm planning an expedition for next year to explore 3 ghost towns in northwestern BC. 2 of them can only...
Gotta get to work on my tailgate table. I already have the CRV table that comes out, but it would be helpful to have another one for a working surface.
Installed the cable for my new antenna and tested SWR. The addition of an extra nut to lengthen the antenna got it to <1 on Channel 1 and 1.4 on channel 40. Good enough for me! The cable routing is a little bit mickey mouse, I know, but frankly it wasn't worth the huge effort involved to get it...
Already have one. I bought it when I installed and tuned my magnet mount antenna.
The effort is going to be taking the dash apart again to run the cable to my radio and hook up the swr for tuning. I'm hoping I can reach in through the side behind the glove box in order to avoid taking too many...
Bracket, antenna and cable installed. I just ran the cable into the back of the vehicle for now. I'll route it and hook it up later. Confirmed with my circuit tester that the mount is properly grounded to the chassis. Should function nicely, and I won't have to worry about my antenna falling...
Installed the new fibreglass antenna and mount, fixed the cable onto the back and routed it through the rear hatch. I'll finish hooking it up and testing SWR later, but I wanted to get this done before it rained too much.
Getting a repair manual for your vehicle is a great idea, but also if you haven't already, read your owners manual front to back and then do it again! It's amazing how many people don't read their owners manual.
Another general tip about DIY, cars included, is try your best to use the right...
This is genius. Now all you need is a spigot that screws into the rotopax spout and you're away to the races.
Apparently I can't link to Amazon on here, which is weird, but I found a relatively affordable one designed for rotopax on there, and there's more than one way to skin a cat ;)
I'm not a car guy really. Most of what I've learned is all from watching youtube and internet research. I've found that working on cars and building stuff is simpler than it seems at first blush.
Finished painting the spare and got it mounted. It was a bit of a rush job as I have a long road trip pending, but actually it turned out pretty darn good all things considered. After the trip, I'm doing the rest of the wheels.
