Update: I'm looking at creating/adapting a bracket to mount it to two of the 4 bolts that hold the tailgate on, with the angled bracket passing out between the gap in the hinge. Bit hard to explain, but I'm going to make a mock up and post pics when I get a chance. Not 100% set on this method...
Changed the rear diff fluid (Honda Genuine Dual Pump Fluid II). The old stuff was nasty and dark, almost black, while the fresh stuff is a light rosy pink.
This thread is so full of win.
I had no idea that roof top tents were such an old idea! They've been around almost as long as cars, apparently. Dang!
The pullout shelves and drawers on that old station wagon rival some of the best I've seen on modern rigs.
Well, I have parental leave coming up soon, so maybe I'll study for a while and have a crack at it, just for fun.
Unlikely my adventure buddies will want to invest the time and money in ham anyway, so it would probably be me doing it just for the sake of doing it.
I'm looking to get a 4' firestik or similar fibreglass antenna. I was planning to mount it by drilling and screwing metal screws into the metal bodywork of the vehicle, either in the trough for the rear hatch using a hood mount type bracket, or a flat mount stuck under the bottom of the rear...
The US ham test must be really different from the Canadian one, because the one in Canada is stupidly hard. I did a bunch of test questions and probably 90% of them might as well have been written in Cantonese, they were complete gibberish to me, and I'm by no means a stupid person.
It seems...
Another major problem with the Canadian rules is that GMRS units are forbidden to have a separate antenna - fixed, integrated antennas only. Basically GMRS in Canada is relegated to crappy hand held 2 watt units only.
Now, of course if you don't mind breaking the law, you could buy a US 5 watt...
Thanks all!
Kevtd - that looks like a sweet Montero you're driving. Do I have the vehicle ID correct?
Xj - I love the XJ. I couldn't quite afford one when I got my V, otherwise it may have been a Jeep I bought instead.
Kevtd is right though, I do love my CR-V. :D
I'm encouraged that so many people here still use CB these days. My buds and I settled on CB for our coms because ham is insanely difficult to get licensed for in Canada, and we weren't interested in spending the huge money to get UHF and then spending more money to pay the yearly user fees to...
When my buddies ans I were looking at radio coms, we ended up settling on CB for two major reasons: cost and simplicity.
Canada has some pretty restrictive rules around ham radio and the test to get the license is stupidly complex and difficult. My buddies and I looked at getting our ham...
I think your biggest hurdle would probably be the trailer coupling - the attachment points on these trailers and the hitch receiver thingy (the mount that bolts into your pickup bed - not sure what exactly they're referred to as) were not designed for significant bends/angles that you would...
In my opinion, if there's anything you should be spending money on, it's tires. A good set of tires is, in my opinion, the single most important upgrade/investment for your vehicle in terms of off roading, overlanding etc. Absolutely nothing is more important in terms of mods. I have probably...
Sweet ride! I have a 99 CRV. I considered getting one of these, but couldn't find one when I needed one. How do you like it? What sort of terrain have you driven? I'd love to see some more shots showing the stance after the lift.
No shortage of idiots in the world, eh? My LE colleagues and I always say it's job security for us lol Correct me if I'm wrong, but every propane cannister has a huge warning on it stating it can explode if heated, does it not?
