    New Midland MXT275 (GMRS Mobile)

Its an NMO mount antenna. You can get NMO magnetic mounts if you dont want to drill a hole. QUOTE="Prerunner1982, post: 378532, member: 8729"]If/when I get GMRS I will probably get this antenna. Not a fan of chrome. Nothing some spray paint cant fix.

Ive seen tests go both ways. If you're talking about the informal ARRL testing i would be wary of any info from them. They have a vested interest in the "big three" in the form of sponsorship dollars.

    Water setups

I know of at least one guy in an XJ that had one for a while. He wound up removing it and selling it saying it wasnt very convenient when filling it up and he would rather have water containers that were easier to remove from the Jeep.

Ive got the UV50X2 which is the HAM version of that radio. It may or may not be programed with GMRS ;) it works great though a little larger than these Midland units. It's the same radio as the GMRS unit but the GMRS unit has different programing to lock it to GMRS ok xmit. It can still be...

Downside is the 5 watt power output and no repeater capability. If you car about such things. Upside is the external antenna will put that 5 watts to good use.

Theyre not going to send you anything unless you request it if you check the licensing system using your FRN i bet your callsign is in there already. Mine was there in less than 12 hours.

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Picked up some road debris which resulted in a partial tread seperation on my front driver's side tire. Changed tire in doctors office parking lot then said screw it and ordered a whole new set of tires to spoon on next week. Until then im sans spare but still have tire repair gear and a pump...

    Water setups

5 gallon Scepter jugs and a sea to summit wash basin for washing and a a sea to summit shower bag for showers. I've been kicking around the idea of a RV type water tank for my harbor freight trailer. If found one I can mount between the frame rails then I'd just need to plumb up a 12v water...

    Ouachita and Ozark National Forest

Yeah I had read those stories prior to going didn't see anything or pick up anything. By the way hiya. I'm down in Greenville. We're practically neighbors.

    Ouachita and Ozark National Forest

Coulda fooled me. I was on it in March of this year. No signage. We were driving though when construction crews were cutting the road wider. Guy in a dozer even moved a large boulder for us. No one said anything to us about it being closed. Saw other vehicles with in state tags on it closer to...

    Overland Trailers

Mine is a work in progress, has been for quite a while haha, it's really only around for when we go on family trips. We run out of room pretty quick in the XJ when we have the all 4 of us plus a dog or two. It's a Harbor Freight 8 foot Folding trailer. I bobbed 2 feet off the back, deleted...

    Auto Lockers up front

I've ran front locked rear open on the past 3 XJs I've owned. For my daily driven Jeeps that's been the ticket for me. And our hubs don't unlock. I went with a Powertrax No Slip on this latest Jeep, my past ones I used Lock Rights. The Lock Rights made some noise and some feedback though the...

    Cruising down Americas Loneliest Highway

That is an interesting area for sure. That was the last section of a big loop of the western states for me about 6 years ago. Hit up the Black Mailbox while I was out that direction too.

    Come-along or winch?

Come alongs suuuuuccckkkkkkk. I mean they get the job done but you'll be a sweaty nasty mess and lose large chunks of time you'll never get back. I really dislike carrying extra weight I don't have to especially since my Jeep takes me on trips and is my daily driver. Hundreds of lbs of extra...

US Southwest DFW Monthly Recurring Overland Bound Meet - August 2019

Are we talking HAM radio, CB, GMRS? If on HAM radio they national "call frequency" is 146.520 for VHF and 446.000 for UHF. These are supposed to be the nationwide frequencies for HAM radio to make contacts then you'd move off of that to another simplex frequency. Or at least that's the idea...

    Plano Sportsmans containers with O-Ring

You can get rubber weatherstrip at LOWES for pretty cheap by the roll. I've used it to seal airboxes and storage containers. Comes with a sticky back and in different sizes/thicknesses.

    New Midland MXT275 (GMRS Mobile)

The smaller antenna installs are something I've used to try to entice people in the local Jeep club to move to GMRS radios from CB. Even as a HAM guy I find myself using UHF recently far more often than VHF when in the Jeep. There are plenty of UHF repeaters in my area and I can still talk 40+...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Not too bad. I think empty weight is around 1200 lbs with the bed. The M116 chassis is around 750ish. Hard to beat my little modded HF trailer that I can pick up and move around when it's empty haha. It tows really nice. The surge brake is pretty functional. Just not how much weight I...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Towed this home from work. Promptly decided it was a little too bulky/heavy than i wanted for my XJ so towed it back this morning since the owner had another buyer lined up. I had plans for smaller tires on the rear and a dropped lunette ring to make it ride level but oh well. Ill be...

    Ram charger

Digging deeper looks like they used an electric actuator on this setup instead of a vacuum setup like on older Jeeps. Should make for better reliability compared to the old vacuum system. Anywho. Now were getting in the weeds. Sorry OP.
