Same here man we were on a call during the last net. I'm going to try to jump in this week though I'll be doing it via smartphone as I don't have any echolink repeaters closeby.
That is a cool spot. When I was still staioned out in SoCal we drove Jeeps to the a trail head towards the south of that spot and hiked in. Was quite a long walk haha. But worth it. Me and some buddies went down in the tressle and explored around a bit.
Here is one of my current XJ on an...
Jeep hasn't used the CAD (center axle disconnect) system since the 95 YJ. The XJ stopped using it in 92. They just went to a one piece axle on the long side and let everything spin with no load. The manual hub conversion for the unit hub Jeeps (all of them since the YJ/XJ) is a system...
I had an 82, hell about 18 yeara ago now. Was a good vehicle but we called the 318 the "gutless wonder". Was a good engine reliability wise and made nice noises but I'm pretty sure my 4cyl Jeep XJ was faster lol.
Im not typically a group run kind of guy but when i was stationed in California i was part of the Southern California Off Road Explorers. One of the only groups i enjoied being around for any period of time.
Anyway back on the radio topic they didnt require you to be a Ham radio operator but...
I was originally going to suggest a PLB but the OP required 2 way messaging. PLB is a one time cost item for the shelf life of the unit. Registration with the COSPAS/SARSAT system is free.
There are units out there with a sub 300 dollar price tag.
Downside is its a single purpose item. And...
I dont bother with tones normally unless im talking though a repeater. Id rather be able to hear folks and know im not walking over someone. If im going out with a group that has GMRS we may run tones just depends on how much random noise were getting.
I fail to see how this thread makes anyone here look like a slob. Maybe I missed something? Did you mean snobs?
Many times you don't always get your choice of campsite. I tend to stay out of designated campgrounds because of the crowds but try to find stuff like that here in Texas and you'll...
I pick one of these up on the 19th of this month. A guy at work picked one up with the intention of turning around and selling it so he sold it to me for a good price. I'm going to have to get creative with my XJ though as it's going to be riding very much nose down lol. Smaller tires or do a...
RAM mounts. Look no further. Your imagination is the only limit. I've got the same aluminum rod mount pictured above that I mounted under the seat bolt of my XJ. It work well but is a little low. I've been meaning to pick up some black plumbing pipe and make a more rigid setup removing the...

Tried them out for the past few months. A little too vibey for me at idle, smooth everywhere else. Going back to OEM Mopar mounts.
50 dollars local pickup 60 shipped.
They are currently installed on the Jeep waiting on my MOPAR mounts to come in. I'll pull them and ship them as soon as I get...
It does not. The internal speaker is plenty loud in my XJ. I still went to an external on the left side of my dash though. Mainly because i had it on the shelf from a previous Jeep lol.
