Its not my fault the industry has that stigma attached to it. Ive had the worst luck with shops working on any of my stuff. I can count on one hand with fingers left over how many places i trust to even check the air pressure in my tires.
Theres only one place here close to me now i trust and...
Whoops forgot the video link.
Ill see of i can cook up a price. A lot of small parts and the inverter i laying around already. Batteries were about 60 dollars which was a large part of the cost.
Congrats on winning tbe mechanic lottery. Too many today are crooked and just as likely to bill you for services never performed than actually do any real work.
I've messed with ratshot for fun but never bothered to carry it for any kind of varmint purposes. I just walk away from them or push them out of the way with a stick if need be.
Mainly the extra power, I've had it for a little over a year. The 50 watt claim is actually kind of low according to my meter. It reads 60-70 watts on high. Typically closer to 70 on VHF and 60ish on UHF. I keep it set on low because pumping out max power doesn't take long for the chassis to...
Stories like above are why you'll rarely see me at any kind of established camp ground. I'd rather take a dispersed spot with no amenities than listen to "human noise". Sometimes there's just no option and in those cases I try to stay at Corps of Engineer Campgrounds. I find they tend to be...
Love those areas. They're pretty much my go to spots since I live east of Dallas. Doesn't take long to get up there. I ran the Clayton trail a while back when It still connected to the Ktrail. Went back out there a few month ago and where they are putting in the new Wind Farm they bulldozed...
You're not far from Clayton, Ok. You should go hit up the Clayton trail while you still can. It used to connect with the KTrail but the bit wind farm operation blocked the last 20 yards of the trail so you have to turn around and go back out but it's still worth the drive. Tons of other stuff...
The FCC boogeyman isn't hiding in the bushes waiting or you to transmit on your non GMRS radios. No one on the other end can tell and the FCC has much larger fish to fry. It took them 9 years and 14 NALs before they took any real action against multiple well known and documented offenders on...
Being around other people is pretty annoying :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy: I tend to be pretty anti social when out camping or wheeling unless it's with a select group of friends/family. I mainly go do that stuff to get away from everything/one
Check out the HP-32FHN. Its not a GMRS antenna but was built specially for motorcycle mobile radio and the vibrations of a motorcycle can kill the best electronic equipment. They beefed it up quite a bit to survive that environment.
Man don't even get me started on these guys. I made a video about it a while back and caught a lot of flak for it from the Rugged Radios "white knights". The only advantage to me is they come prewired for headsets but you can accomplish the same thing with a stand alone aircraft intercom box...
On my last XJ I ran HAM and CB and mounted my CB antenna on the Driver's side and HAM antenna on the passenger side. Wasn't a big deal for me since I rarely used the AM/FM radio in the Jeep and simply removed that antenna and stuck it next to the passenger seat for the few times I felt like...
KK6RBI here east of Dallas, Tx. Mostly a mobile user don't really mess with radios too much at the house though I do have a small shack setup in the corner of my garage. It's kind of the catch all electronics table. Mostly use Chinese radios anymore. I do have a Yeasu FT90R that I can't let...
I lived in SOCAL for a few years. In the circle you drew there are TONS of repeaters in that area. Most have some sort of back up or emergency power option either battery/gen set/ or solar. Simplex on UHF/VHF is going to be hit or miss and as mentioned earlier a function of your altitutde...
Roof would be the best obvious choice and GMRS antennas even in a half wave format aren't that long, what about 16 inches or so. The advantage of mounting it on the roof is you can go 1/4 wave (8ish inches) and still get good performance since you have the roof working as an excellent ground...
