    22 Frontier Pro 4X question

I know there are racks that are specifically designed to work with tonneau covers, but I don't know about that one. Might be best to reach out to Yakima regarding fitment.

    12v Basics

Redarc, and renogy have really good ones. Victron is also really good, but I think each module is separate. I'm planning on running this in my trailer once it's built. This is what I have for my Xterra

    12v Basics

Well, you don't want debris blocking the vent fan, as it could overheat and burn up the electronics, but I would refer to the manual of whatever dc charger you buy. The advantage to dc chargers though, is that you can run a smaller fused line to the charger. I have a 20a dc charger. I'm going...

    12v Basics

It will not. The reason why is because the computer is constantly adjusting the voltage to maintain the required systems, and improve fuel economy and reduce engine load. Standard alternators attempt to maintain a constant voltage, and can reasonably charge an AGM or deep cycle battery. For...

Build vs. Buy - An Overland Trailer Debate

I recently went through this same thought process. I don't have 5 grand to spend, let alone 10 grand to buy a trailer (though I suppose I could finance it, but don't really want to go down that route, with two car payments and a mortgage), so the decision was pretty easy for me. Unlike you, I...

Anyone used this wireless radio programmer for Baofeng handhelds?

Holy crap. I had no idea this existed. I used chirp to program my current radio. @David H and I were talking over the weekend about getting his radio programmed. If I'd had this, I could have done it on the spot.

Hey @GHCOE - if you have any photos/videos of the wife or I going up or down any of those hills, is there any chance I could get a copy of of them? I'll upload my footage to Dropbox so you can use it in your video as well.

The wife and I have to recover after this one! Also, I definitely need sliders on the truck. And to get that lift installed. But man, that was fun! Thanks again George!

    BTECH GMRS-V1 Arrived

This. I ran a uv-5r for two years as my primary radio. It worked great from inside the vehicle. I had it hooked up to a battery eliminator and external antenna. Still going strong, but I use it as a handheld radio now, as I have Midland mxt275 radios in both rigs now. From what I can tell...

    12v Basics

I'm well aware of the cold charging limitations of lifepo4 batteries. That's part of the reason I'm contemplating going agm as well. While I love the idea of lifepo4, and the charging cycles, to get a good quality 50ah lifepo4 battery (what I want inside the truck), I'm looking at 600-750 bucks...

    12v Basics

This is the way. I've not installed my DC-DC charger yet. I'm not going to bother with solar in my rig. I'll save that for the trailer. I'd rather use a lifepo4 battery in the rig, but may end up going agm just to save cost. At least to start.

Like I said, there's absolutely nothing wrong with grounding to the chassis, or using factory grounding points. I just prefer not to touch the factory electrical system as much as possible.

    12v Basics

2 gauge is probably a bit overkill, but yes. I ran positive and negative 4 gauge from my starter battery, through the firewall to the back of my Xterra. Before it goes through the firewall, it passes through a 100a waterproof breaker. I use a 100a fuse block in the back, that everything runs...

    12v Basics

10Ga wire would do what you want, yes. But..... And I'm playing devils advocate here.... What happens when you want to expand what you're able to run? I'd run 2 or 4 gauge to a fuse block. Even if you only need 20-30A of current. This would prevent the wire from overheating, barring a short...

See, now you've really peaked my interest, as I've not done any exploring yet in Utah, but the more I see, the more I want to.
