This works great for DIY installs, where you're dealing with a traditional second battery, and aux system, but the plugs can still pop out of power stations.
Ask me how I know. ;)
Maybe I need to go and create a long post in the Electrical section regarding power stations, fridges, and such.
It has a charing port. It can accept 12v-18v input. While I agree, charging direct via dc would be ideal, in practice, it's much slower. It's also prone to rattling loose (I've tried charging them everyway you can think of, and ac via inverter gives the best results).
If you're charging while...
Honestly, the budget fridges have gotten quite good in the last few years.
I'm running a 40 qt Massimo fridge I picked up from Costco last year for 270 shipped. We use it as a drink fridge when it's not in the truck, and its been running non-stop since we got it. It pulls about 40W when it's...
Haha. That's fair! It's always good to have a separate spotting radio as well. I keep my baofend clipped to a pocket on the side of the front passenger seat in the Xterra. If I need to hand it to someone to spot, it's right there.
I used a uv-5r for about 18 months before picking up my mxt-275.
It worked great, and I almost just moved the setup to the X when I bought it.
If you're going to use it in the vehicle as your primary radio, I'd recommend using an external antenna. This will greatly increase your range, as the...
So, a while ago, I pulled out the chincey 6 switch plastic panel, and replaced it with a metal 4 switch box and dual usb quick charge/voltmeter combo.
The switches have been wired up for a few months now, but I finally got around to wiring up the USB ports:
It's wired up so that it switches...
I'm so jealous that everywhere but the states can get REAL patrols, and not the soccer-mom'd Armada version that we get here.
I'd love to get my hands on a y60 or y61 patrol from Australia.
Looking forward to seeing the progress on the engine swap.
Very nice! I'm currently running a 20" light bar on the bumper, and a 32in bar up top.
The bumper light works great, but I want to switch to a different setup. I'm looking at these from auxbeam, as I've heard really good things.
Auxbeam 360-PRO Round LED
Not sure what I'm going to do up...
Interesting. I'm not familiar enough with solid state setups. I'm personally leary of going that route myself. Relays are super easy to pull and replace, and I always Carrey spares anyways.
Also the relay/fuse box is physically smaller, if I recall. There's more room in the engine bay of d22s...
I'm planning on doing the auxbeam switch in the frontier, so I'm curious what you think about it it.
Did you go for the solid state relay setup, or the one with the fuses and mini Relays?
Haha. Mines filthy, and I still sometimes stand in the mudroom and look at what I've built.
What are you planning on doing for lighting control? Something an spod or switch pros, or something more custom?
Ha! That's a valid reason. I don't have a garage, so that's not an issue here.
I'm planning on doing a refresh of all my plastics this year. New grill, new headlights, refresh the rear bumper caps. I also need to fix my headliner.
I might have to pick up some of that trim restorer....
I see a D22 build, and I follow it. :grinning:
I'm excited to see the build progress. Out of curiosity, why not 265/75r16? I feel like that tire size, plus a pml is perfect for these trucks.
Thanks! I'm going to be building some new doors here in a few weeks. It's too cold outside, so I'll be cutting outside, then bringing the doors into the basement for glue and epoxy.
Shipping oem wheels via private party isn't very cost effective. You'll be better served picking up some cheap steel wheels from somewhere like discount tire. It'll cost about 200-250 vs probably about 400 or more.
The kitchen box door? My plan is to have the stove mounted to the door, so when you open the box (hinge at the bottom) the stove is right there. Along with pots and pans, any pretty much anything else we need.
So, the base box is done.
We had plenty of plywood left over, so we built a box to hold my kitchen stuff on one side:
Still lots of work left to do. I need to rebuild the doors, add re-enforcement to the middle of the kitchen box, paint it (obviously). At that point, it'll at least be...
My dad and I talked about that today, and figured out a way we're we can lift the box off the frame. Once it warms up in the spring, it's getting a diy bedliner coating.
As for the build, we got all the walls glued and screwed today, along with the doors cut out.
Looking inside the...
