Yeah.... The Aussies get all the good toys. I wouldn't even consider putting it on my truck. Like I said.... I need the bed. I would however, consider chopping the body on my X, extending the frame, and putting one on that. Can't afford it though. Lol.
Take some pics and post them up. We're taking 3 rigs out into the Oregon high desert in a couple weeks before it starts getting too cold for the family to go as well.
I did. Much of the mountains here are 5000ft plus. One place we tried to camp this year was 9000ft. Forest service hadn't been up to open the gate yet, though they were supposed to open it mid-june (it was July when we went).
Not yet. Much of the northern half of the trip is under snow until probably June, so it wouldn't be until most of the snow has melted. I'll have 4 weeks of PTO next year, so it'll happen, I just don't know when yet.
Dude, I have camera mounts all over my X. I have one right above the rear driver wheel well that I can't get off there without peeling paint. I plan on it. I want to have my trailer built, and a roof top tent on it before we go as well.
I'm not saying lithium power stations are bad units (hell, I have two of them). They most certainly have their uses. I use one to power my fridge in my Xterra, as I don't have room for a second hard mounted battery. The other powers the caps in the tent. I also use them to charge camera...
While these solar generators are great for certain use cases, they have their limitations.
While they're great for situations where you'd like to have power away from your rig (trailer in this case), if you have the space for a permanent battery, that's almost always going to be a better...
If I'm still at my current job next year (not actively looking, but you know)... I'll have a total of 5 weeks vacation for next year. Hoping to do some bigger trips, and this would be one of them.
Nope, never used it. I did this in Dia. It's clear enough for my needs. I can trace the wires and see what they're attached to if I ever run into an issue.
Thanks Mike! I also took the time to build a wiring diagram, so that in a year, I can look at it, and understand what this mess of wires actually does!
Although, in the diagram, I just realized that the rooftop light bar switch goes to the wrong relay! Whoops!! Fixing that in the diagram...
A little update.
I spent last weekend disassembling and painting my drawer system (finally).
While it was out, I figured I'd take the time to clean up, and properly secure all my wiring in the back.
Went from this:
To this:
Much better looking, IMHO. now I need to get the hardware...
@M Rose gives some sound logic here.
A year ago, I was in the same boat as you. I had a grand idea of what I wanted to do for my electrical in my Xterra, but no tools or experience in dealing with 12v systems.
Mike spent two days teaching me and and helping me build my initial auxiliary...
I have two drawers in the back of my Xterra. Each drawer rides on a set of 22" non locking slides.
To lock the drawers, I used some barrel latches.
I also built a tilting fridge slide. The pull out section rides on a set of these.
I would recommend just spending the money on slides that...
Were coming up on the end of the year where I start winding things down.
I currently don't have anything planned, as we're trying to knock some home projects out before it gets too cold.
I'll probably try and put some daytrips together for the winter. Most likely out into the owyhees so snow...
