Looks good man! I like that it's nice and simple.
Doing custom work is the way to go, IMHO. You can build it exactly like you want, and when you're done, you've got something you can be proud of.
I got the DC charger harness in the tonight. Ran the wires to the bumper, and tracked down an ignition switched 12v source under the hood. I then hooked up the ignition activation wire to the DC charger, and ran the wire through the tongue box. Now all that's left is to make the plug on the...
If you start walking this way now, you might make it here by Thursday.
We can meet you in Vale. Let's plan on having the gmrs tuned to ch 18. Have your ham tuned to the frequency Mike mentioned. I'll have him update you via ham as we get closer.
Looking forward to seeing you again!
Whelp, trailer is ready to be loaded up! I tightened up the wiring so nothing is hanging down. Also vacuumed up all the sawdust.
All that's left to accomplish before the trip is run the harness for the DC charger in the truck, and move the tent from the X to the trailer!
This is the way.
I can honestly say that if I were to do this again, I would buy premade doors instead of trying to build my own. I can absolutely make them work, but they're not idea, by any means. I would eventually like to possibly build a teardrop/squaredrop trailer, and the lessons I...
Well, sometimes it helps to have a hard date that it needs to be ready by.
I definitely will want the tent to be up a little higher, but it's 100% usable in its current form.
I already know there are things that I'll need to add/change in the future. These include:
- purchase and install...
What's everyone's comms situation? I can monitor ham, but cannot transmit. Our primary means of communication will be gmrs.
I don't have one yet, but if somebody has a portablefire ring, please let me know.
Weather is currently looking great, with a slight chance of rain Friday, and mostly...
OK, so, fridge slide is in:
Water tank and water pump are mounted!
And rack is bolted down with 4 3in long big timber lag bolts. This thing isn't going anywhere.
Tomorrow night I tighten up the wiring, and start cleaning out the trailer.
@David H is coming over on Saturday to help...
I have two of them. An older 540Wh battery, and a slightly newer one. Both work well. I've had the 540Wh battery for two years, and the 500wh for a year. The non-regulated 12v port isn't a big deal, as you can add a regulator for about 20 bucks. Both are still going strong.
Thanks man!! It's been a really fun project, and I've learned ALOT.
There's way more room inside the trailer than there appears. I can actually crawl inside even with the fridge slide and water tank in there, and still have lots of room (not that this was built to sleep in....), so fitting all...
Hooray!! Will you be meeting us at the camp site later in the day? Or can we expect you to meet us friday morning, and roll out with us? The reason I posted the camp destination is so that people can make their own way there if they decide to join us. :D
No pictures over the last couple days. Since I'm back at work during the day, I only have a few hours after my kid goes to bed to get work done on the trailer.
Fridge slide is in, and bolted down. Power cord is made, tested, and set. On the plus side, my $279 only draws about 3 amps while...
It's working here when loaded via an in private tab. The light purple line leading out of Caldwell is the old route. I realized that the trailer needs new tires before attempting the "fun" route, so we're taking the main road all the way in.
You're not going anyways, so why are you giving me a...
Wed love to have you Larry! I don't think I've seen you since that first trip I did with George when we crossed the Alvord after it rained.
The gpx file is attached to the rally point, but I have a shared Gaia folder I'll link below. I don't have any routes from the west side of Oregon...
Come join us for our 3rd annual Memorial Day Camping trip! This time we will be heading to the bottom of Lake Owyhee, and exploring the area during the day.
This is a base camp trip, with wheeling, and exploring. Bring your kids, family, dogs, and a good attitude!

Ladies and gentle-folk, groot is just about finished!
Got the solar charger tested today! It's wired up, and charges the battery perfectly! (though I need higher performing solar panels with this charger).
I worked on the relay box and fuse block until 2am this morning, and got it in today...
My roof top tent is going up there. It is fairly flat, yes. That being said, with the durabak bedliner paint, plus the frp panels underneath the paint, I'm not worried about water sitting on the roof at all. It rained pretty good Friday night for a bit, and there wasn't a drop of water inside.
