You would need to put some heavy duty crossbars up there, and that's it. If you already have a tent though, I'd personally use that for a while. There are pros and cons to a roof top tent on a vehicle, and that's not taking cost into consideration.
Out of curiosity, why spend that much on a modular roof rack, if you're thinking about a roof top tent? Seems to me like you would lose all the functionality of that rack, which is the whole point, right?
You could likely just get some crossbars for mounting a tent, which would be considerably...
Tested out the camp lights this morning. They all work! Now I just need to get the box mounted, and the lights back on the brackets, and I'm good to go.
Next up, adding a partition wall between the main storage and the water tank/fridge area.
Worked on getting all the wiring in place for the lights. Got the power box built, bus bars installed, and the harness built.
Now all that's left is to add ring terminals to the power and ground for the bus bars, and see if it works. Unfortunately, I ran out of time tonight for that.
Precisely. I've heard both camps on soldering Ian's high vibration environments. Jury's still out over here as to which is better, but I tend to lean more towards marine grade crimp connectors over solder seal, unless dealing with very small wire.
When using crimp butt and spade connectors, I...
You're not wrong. For example, I needed to buy a corded skil type saw not that long ago. I won't use it a ton, and didn't want to pay a bunch of money for one. So I bought the HF saw. For as much as I'll use it, it'll do just fine. I have dewalt and black and decker cordless tools. HF angle...
Some things from harbor freight are actually pretty good. I have one of their cheap heat guns, and it works really well.
I can't recommend solder seal connections enough. That being said, I'd also recommend using quality plugs when plugs are required. I recently started using jready dt and dtp...
Took the trailer out for it's maiden voyage this weekend!
Folks, let me introduce you to Groot!!
Overall, the trailer did amazing!! There's definitely changes/adjustments that need to be made.
I was having an issue with the tail lights, where they really only work if my headlights aren't...
Thanks to everyone who came out!
We had a great time, and it was wonderful meeting @rstedy32 and his girlfriend, @dansun86 and his kids. We also had @David H and his daughter, @Luinil Explorations, @M Rose, myself, and my wife and daughter.
On Saturday, @rstedy32 went and explored looking for...
Hey, look what I found!
4-way Flat Trailer Connector with Snap Self-Closing Lid Cover Heavy-Duty 12V 4-pin Trailer Tow Wire Harness Socket Kit with 7.8" Wires Road Tough WeatherLock
Is that what you're looking for?
Ugh....
I was out trying to wire up the lights until 11:30 last night, and was unsuccessful.
I'm gonna do a change of plans with how I'm wiring them.
12ga positive and negative going into a junction box with bus bars. Then 22ga (that's what the lights have in them currently) running to...
Just called, and they do not have any firewood for sale. Like I said before, there should be a bunch on the ground that we can collect. @Luinil Explorations and I will be bringing some from home as well.
Hey, if everyone is incinerated in said fair, there's nobody to complain about the size.
You're welcome Julie.
Might have a big announcement to make about next year's event, so stay tuned. Definitely missing you guys this year.
I guess the first thing we do after camp is set up is to go and collect fire wood. Might not be a bad idea for everyone to purchase a few bundles to supplement. I should have plenty of room in the truck to carry what everyone buys if needed.
Travel itinerary for Friday:
Meet time

I've officially started loading the trailer! I also decided yesterday to go ahead and purchase some flood lights to mount on it to give us camp lighting. I'm going out run the wires for those tonight, so I can get them wired up tomorrow night. Nothing like a last minute project to get things moving!
@David H and I got the tent on the trailer tonight. I also got the weatherstripping on the doors, and made the trailer side dc charger plug.
At this point, I'd say the trailer is done, and ready to load up!
