Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
It was actually a side hit, came out of the road sideways on ice and hit drivers side rear wheel right into a 30" oak, broke the top joint off the back axle and crushed the side. I've got pictures somewhere...
We loved it and it took the hit and kept us all safe, but we'd just put $1700 in the transmission two weeks before the crash and found out we were having our third kid the week after. That's when the Suburban came in.
I'd have to mortgage the house for the tickets. My wife has a '13 Malibu LT2 and I'm surprised she hasn't gotten any in it yet. Her previous vehicles were a '01 Grand Cherokee (tried to push over a tree with it) and a '99 Suburban that I basically rebuilt then sold in frustration.
When I bought my stove it ran rough but instead of replacing the generator, I mixed Chevron Techron fuel treatment in with the fuel and ran about a 1/4 tank through it and it straightened it right up. It just builds up like a regular carburetor. Unless the end is damaged in some way I wouldn't...

What I started with:
What I ended up making to solve the issues of rust and breakage. And it's not 1/4", I'm sorry, it was 1/8" angle and a 1/4" thick gusset. Never broke or lost continuity again though and that was with a 102" whip swinging on...
Getting both vehicles paid off tomorrow and paying up 6mos of insurance. Trying to get ready to go out of work for a month for a hernia surgery. Trying to get ahead on some bills so we don't have to stress savings and can cover my wife's summer semester out of there.
Not sure what kind of antenna you are going to run on that but I built my first mount very similar to that and wound up breaking it through the 90* bend on the first trail after about the 5th tree hit it. I went back with 1/4" steel and eventually 1/4" stainless steel with a heck of a gusset.
I've got to treat the handle on all my axes this summer. My truck axe's head is my Dad's Boy Scout axe from his child hood that my Grandpa bought him. Grandpa rehandled it sometime over the years and it's in good shape, but could use some linseed oil on the handle for longevity. My splitting...

Blowing Rock, NC
Take a bit and check out Tweetsie Railroad. It's a working steam railway around the mountain with some live shows, rides, and some little shops. It was something we did growing up in the area and holds a lot of fond memories for my brother and myself. I...
This is my old Cherokee I had a bunch of time and money in. It worked great but was only a two door and didn't hold the 5 of us very well at the time. Sold it and bought my crew cab GMC which I also love, but I miss the capability of the Cherokee all around.
It worked great but we outgrew...
I'm wanting to get into SOTA as there are many listed summits around my house, but I've got to find a rig. I'm learning code so I can get a little QRP tin- style radio, but I've considered getting the Bit-X QRP SSB rig to build as well!
I don't know what kind of vehicle you have, but I've considered putting an air tank under my Xterra where the factory spare is now when I get a rear bumper with a tire carrier. There's also space behind the passenger side interior panel to mount a compressor and not intrude in the interior. Just...
The wife made tater-tot nachos tonight using some left over chili from last night and I'm about 4 Modelo Especials into the evening right now. I was going to check into the Va Fone Net but the bands are way long this evening so I thought I'd see what pictures I had on Photobucket of other trips...
I was also wondering if anyone uses a Windows 10 laptop for mapping? We bought my wife a new laptop for school and she wound up using her old one because Windows 10 isn't compatible with the software the school uses. I'm wondering what kind of GPS dongles you would use and what map programs are...
I've had Orux maps downloaded for years, but just last night I sat down to explore what is actually capable of. So far I really like it. I downloaded the Opentopo maps for a large area around the house and then imported a KMZ from Google I put together for a day trip just to see how it would...
Well give me a shout, I doubt the K5 will be going but I might run out to camp and meet you. That's only about 20min from the house. The C&M had station in New Castle had a surprising variety of craft beer if you're into that.
Are you trailering or driving?
Awesome! That's a fun trail, but my trail rig has been out of commission for a while and is not looking like it's going to get better soon. Are y'all going to be camping at The Pines?
I don't like the fiberglass antennas personally. I'll be running a good solid body side mount and a 102" stainless whip. I've had the best luck from them. I had one on my Jeep for years after the fiberglass one I bought first snapped of and just went directly to one for my K5. If the mount is...
