Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Installed a trunk lip mount on the rear gate of my Xterra for a dual band 2m/440 antenna. I've been running a mag mount but wanted something more permanent for the long run. I had to pull down the head liner along the driver's side to get the coax run up to the console, even using a fiberglass...
I think most everyone knowing that 146.460 is the popular frequency is great. It gives someone a place to go to try to summon help and the dual watch radios monitors that and using an alternate for group coms would be good to if someone in another group was to call for assistance.
Knowing your...
Well, older 3/4 and 1 ton trucks used a narrow, tall tire. Most 3/4 ton and almost all the dually trucks up through the early 2000's at least, spec'd either 245/75/16 or 235/85/16 for the factory tire size. In off-road tires, those are fairly narrow tires, the 235/85/16's are along the lines...
Wider tires float better in mud and sand, but there are trade-offs. You have to have the power to spin them hard enough to clean them in mud and you reach a point where the drag in sand will overcome your cooling system working the engine to turn them.
From what I've seen, your popular sizes...
K3500 crew cab Duramax dually with a custom built aluminum frame slide in camper to sleep 5 (three kids) and an aluminum trailer hauling a JKUR on 36" tires with the best all around balance of crawler and overlander I could manage.
It's good stuff! Spreads easily and is a great consistency for pizza. Plus it's great if you want to do garlic cheese bread with your pizza. I'm really wanting to try pizza on my Coleman now. Maybe I can convince the wife that we should give it a try tomorrow.
I hear ya! That makes my mouth water just looking at it. For the sauce, try Newman's Own marinara, it's what we've been using for home made pizza for years. Guess it's time to break out the Coleman oven and give this a go!
If water proof isn't required, the Rubbermaid Action Packers are water resistant. No soft seal but they have a raised ring that mates with the lid and unless it's directly sprayed with high pressure or submerged, it stays dry inside. I keep two in the back of my K5 offroad with no top over them...
Back at camp, about noon like we had hoped, we started tearing into the truck. We pulled the shaft and were pretty impressed with what we found:
I got to work cleaning up the new shaft to put back in and Matt went about trying to pull the stub out. *clank* "What was that?"
Matt: "Um, I...
This trip was in November, the most recent and the first one I have access to pictures of right off without having to dig out flash drives and external hard drives. We've gotten older since we started doing this kind of thing and as such, trailer the trail rigs. Getting home Monday for work is...
I'm going to try to write out some of the trips I've been on over the years. These are less overlanding, although some of them do involve driving the wheeling vehicle several hours to get to the destination, camping, wheeling, repairing and driving the several hours back.
The pictures will be...
Oh ok. The little stream and red roofed out buildings reminded me of a little place close to Independence, Va, but I don't remember a large barn on that property is why I asked. Did you happen to go eat at Creek Bottom Brewing down in Galax?
KJ4TOZ here. I've been looking at vanity calls but haven't made the jump yet. It's a mouthful in a pileup!
I've noticed some people were saying they'd upgrade if they had a buddy or maybe you're not as excited about the other facets of Amateur radio as you feel you should be. I was the same way...
I'm a layerer as well. Generally a thermal long sleeve, t-shirt, and right now my jacket is an old Eddie Bauer duck material jacket with removable fleece liner. We cleaned out a cabinet at work and it was in it. No one claimed it in a week so we divided up what we found. I have no idea how old...
Depends on how you define exploring. I've always liked to roam around the countryside. It started with a 1960's model Massey-Ferguson #8 lawn tractor and riding around on the family farm as a kid. Then it was going out riding in my Mom's 1993 S10 Blazer 4x2 when I got my learner's permit...
Until recently I just went without. I can get by but as my coffee addiction has been fueled by it being readily available at work in the mornings, I've begun to want it on the trail. At my bachelor's party a few years ago, we were camped out mid-trail up on the mountain and one of the guys had...
