Had a good time with some friends out at Big Bear this past week

From my understanding Dedeckera Canyon (the beginning of this video) is part of Steel Pass as a whole, but I could be mistaken (and maybe one of you can clear that up). Regardless here's a video of it from a few weeks ago. Fun and beautiful trail with some minor technical areas in the beginning...

Didn't do any off-roading this weekend, but got a little bored and wanted to get a shot in one of our local groves. Fires in the mountains have been making for some extremely orange sunsets lately:

Interesting. Glad I decided to do it then if they're thinking about closing it. I thought it was still mined privately? Perhaps they want to close it off to people?

It was a multi-day trip, and I honestly didn't learn about the mine until the last day after I had been off-roading in Nevada on the border of California. The inspector for the border crossing had talked with me about some trails and mentioned it. I usually take Tioga as it's closest for me and...

Yup. It's pretty easy. The hardest part is probably the last 50 yards of road that lead up to the section of the mine you can drive in. Gets pretty rocky and could be hard to do without 4WD.

It's here in California. It's between Lone Pine and Independence. Basically a few miles North of Mt. Whitney. It's called Reward, CA, but Manzanar might be more familiar if you know the area. The road to it starts directly across from the WWII internment camp. Reward Mine.

I'll be doing a lift and some other stuff this winter, which is why I did this now. Apparently if you are under 77" you are okay, but beyond that you'll hit.

I think I'm just going to buy a Smittybilt one that's portable. For $80 I can do that. Will keep my mind at ease too.

How's that road sand wise? I heard some of the roads over in that direction are a bit iffy with sand and it's easy to get stuck without airing down. I didn't think that specific route was one, but figure I might as well ask.

Looking to do a three to four day trip next week with the wife. We are in Fresno, but I'm hoping to drive down and across to Lone Pine, then go up towards Tioga Pass and head home through Yosemite National Park as I know that area very well. I have a few offroading books that talk about trails...
