Received the new DV8 887 wheels (17x9 +20mm offset) and had them installed. Unfortunately they reinstalled the 7mm spacers I had on the front so I can't say yet if the wheels will eliminate rubbing by themselves. With the spacers installed I have no rubbing even at full lock so I'm happy so far...
Great advice above.
Skip the RTT and rack. Invest in good tires and then recovery equipment. All the other toys should only be purchased after you've spent enough time on the trail to determine you actually need or want them.
As you can tell from the banter in the video above, the rescue squad still wasn't taking the situation very seriously. Augustine in the 3rd Gen realized he wasn't going to be able to pull Dan loose from the front of his truck so he decided to turn around and attempt a tug using his rear hitch...
With traction and confidence levels high we pressed on while chatting away on the walkie talkies about how flipping cool this experience was. One of the nice things about snow wheeling vs. non-snow wheeling is overall comfort. The snow dampens impacts from ruts and rocks so the overall ride...
Northern California was about to get hit by a major storm and we wanted a part of it.
February 9th 11:40am
Jeni and I are shopping at Target when I get a text from Trevor. He wants to go snow wheeling before the storm really kicks in but he has a date with "golf cart girl" (don't ask) and...
I noticed I had a headlight out during my morning commute (Thursday) and I planned on driving 4+ hours from Grass Valley to Carmel by the Sea for the weekend right after work. I did a little troubleshooting and found the Morimoto XB35 HID ballast on the passenger side was toast. I quickly...
Duratracs are notorious for being loud after 20k miles or so and wet traction is poor. There are better tires now that best the Duratrac in wet, quietness, price and durability that match it in snow performance. The Ridge Grappler gets good reviews and I'll take my Wildpeak A/T3W over the...
I bet!
Just remember to bring every piece of recovery gear possible and know how to use it. I know they do recovery classes up here and I'm willing to be they have them down south as well. Also keep the gas tank as full as possible and bring extra fuel even for shorter trips. I say this because...
Way to just do it! :)
Keep it up and you'll inevitably meet more overlanders from your area who will join you on trips. I tend to go out solo more than I should but those trips are becoming less frequent as I gain more off-roading friends.
This is Ellie. She's year and a half old or so. She was supposed to be a border collie lab mix but there's something else mixed in there to give her those crazy ears. We picked her up at a shelter in Oroville, CA. Her sister was adopted at the same time by another family. There were 3 sisters...
