Did some test fitting of a budget ventilation setup. A set of 3 speed usb powred Cabinet vent fans and a small piece of foam board. Plugs into my rear usb outlet.
CFM rating of both fans is enough to cycle all the air in the Jeep every minute or so.
Folks in South Dallas are experiencing this on a regular basis. There's been a lot of gentrifying of various areas south and west of the downtown area and it's pushing into areas that were in the past...........less than desirable. They've seen a pretty decent uptick of home invasions and...
It's not nearly as susceptible to interference in that regard but if you put enough electrical noise in the air around a radio it'll cause interference with even the best radios.
The most common cause of poor CB performance is antenna tuning and position. On Jeeps especially CJs, and...
I typically just put the pin though the loop. I've done some pretty rough recoveries and haven't bent one yet but I don't go yanking on people's vehicles like they owe me money either. If you want to get the shackle hitch thing just go down to your local Tractor Supply or whatnot. They...
4 Watts on CB not 5, GMRS is legally limited to 50 watts not 100, you'll get 40 miles in near perfect conditions maybe mountain top to mountain top. UHF signal propagation means that real world range isn't going to be anywhere near that. Antenna height is king on UHF/VHF they are mostly line...
That is certainly a hurdle. I make weekly probably annoying posts about licensing folks for GMRS in our Jeep Club. I've had absolutely no interest in HAM but I've got a little traction with GMRS. Especially since we have a local repeater that covers a 40+ mile radius around our city.
We use those same mounts on our fire engines and trucks but in a rollover they may not hold very well. Nothing holds the extinguisher from sliding up and out of the mount.
The ISS has an APRS setup as well. And working it on APRS is pretty simple and easy even with a HT if you get it at a high enough elevation to your position. Don't even have to worry about Doppler shift really on the VHF uplink.
The vast majority of people far underestimate a stock or nearly stock vehicle's performance. I follow expedition overland on youtube and the size of those guy's vehicles (both tire and physical size of the vehicle are probably more of a hindrance than a help on most of the trips I've watched...
There's a few different ways to go about doing APRS and it really depends on what you want to do with it. FWIW I've rarely been somewhere that didn't have cell service that did have APRS service. It still depends on an external network to get it done.
I use a cheap handheld, a 40 dollar...
I typically EDC a Glock 17 or 19. At work I keep it in a lockbox in our gated parking lot. Can't carry at work. On trips I have the G17 and a CAA "MicroRoni" chassis for it floating around in the Jeep at the very least, though I typically toss one of the ARs into the back as well. In my Get...
Battery powered saw is on my list. I dislike 2stroke saws. Sometimes they're the tool for the job but nearly all of the cutting I do is light duty and handled by my electric chain saw plugged into my inverter.
FWIW I work in a city fire department in the Dallas area. We're currently...
Many of the other motorcycle and jeep/off road forums I'm a part of have a sub forum specifically for "help". There's even a pinned thread where everyone can post up where they are and what they can provide in certain instances. Example: I've got enough property that if someone wanted to stop...
Mostly a weekender but try to get out on a longer trips at least once or more a year. Family and work just typically prevent anything more than that. I'm trying to get myself positioned retirement wise to be able to do it full time but that's at least 17 years away lol.
