My APRS setup is a handheld attached to an external antenna. It's not something I keep on the Jeep all the time just on trip so being battery powered isn't a huge deal.
Baofeng, BTECH APRS cable and a 40 dollar android phone from amazon. The setup is hooked to an external 1/4 wave antenna...
For a running mostly intact XJ this price isn't to crazy depending on area. 20 to 30 years of abuse and sawsalls has taken its toll on the XJ population. That combined with renewed interest in the platform has resulted in increased demand with an ever decreasing supply.
I moved my run up there to the weekend of the 18th if that helps. 17th 18th and come back on the morning of the 19th.
Ive got HAM GMRS and CB. Ive actually been using GMRS quite a bit lately.
You're welcome to check out my setup if you come down to Broken Bow Lake. We may push into Arkansas...
Im headed up there on the weekend of the 11th and 12th. @Boostpowered a heads up on this one. Itll be my last go round till medic school. I plan on hanging around the north end of the lake again mostly. Trying to cover more tracks on trails i havent been on yet.
Gaia, Google Maps, BackCountry Navigator. Those are my gotos. Backcountry Navigator and Gaia are both pay to play, there is a free Backcountry Navigator version but it's not as capable as the paid version. At least the paid backcountry nav is a one time cost instead of the annual fee for...
They are going to be doing a controlled burn on the north end of the lake for the first part of the year. Saw signs all over last trip but dont remeber the dates exactly.
Maybe I missed it in the thread somewhere. What's the intended use of your setup? Run air tools? Air Up Tires only? Shop air? Air suspension?
If all you need to do is air tires up and down and maybe air up an air mattress you don't need a bit fire breathing unit that'll run your shop...
Different areas of the country. When I was stationed in SOCAL It wasn't uncommon for folks to go shoot in the BLM and National Forrest areas in SOCAL because there's so much of it and it's easily accessible. Gun clubs and indoor ranges are restricting in what you can do (slow fire only, no...
I stayed at Beaver's Bend State Park a while back. March time frame I think. We were going to dispersed camp on the east side of the lake somewhere but a couple with us decided they wanted access to "facilities", unfortunately I caved. People were up all night long with music, a couple of...
His year model will just have the thermostat housing mounted sensor which feeds data to the computer and gauge. 96 and down had a head mounted sensor that fed the dash gauge and the thermostat housing sensor was used for fueling.
There's a chart with OHM readings based on temperature of the...
Nearly the whole West Side of the lake is OHV/Ntl Forrest area. The East side seems to be more Game Preserve but still navigable.
Here's a few pics from my last couple of trips.
Holly Mountain Trail
Deadend forrest service road camp.
Abandoned fire tower on East Side of lake.
