As a motorcycle guy I tried hammock camping for about a year and gave up. Many areas i was going had no or sparce trees. And by the time i packed the tent and all the extras including a small tarp to cover my gear/equipment i was at the weight and size of my 3 person tent that i can practically...
Very similar made by th3 same company. Incremental improcements over time. Ive been eating them since the late 80s. My dad was Army Infantry then I decided to become a Marine so ive had quite a few MREs in my life haha
I have the little buddy heater. I use the inside of my Jeep as a tent which works well for me since i'm a shorter guy. I've done a few test runs with it at the house in cold for our area weather (just below freezing) in the back of the Jeep. In about 10 minutes of operation it has the Jeep...
If it's dumping that fuel though the injectors you'll kill your catalytic converter in short order as well. A stuck injector dumping tons of fuel can wash the cylinder walls down and remove the oil (and contaminate the engine oil) and cause cylinder wall scoring as well. Pull your dipstick...
I bet you can slap some new valve seals on there and make it stop burning oil by quite a bit. Even with worn valve guides the seals sit ontop like an umbrella so should keep the majority of the oil out of the valve guide.
If anyone ever has their GMRS status checked by an actual FCC agent I'll buy you a bottle of cheap whiskey. There's zero need to carry around paper licenses unless you just feel inclined to do so.
#1....the chance of anyone with actual authority demanding your license is basically zero...
I got my callsign less than 24 hours after submitting payment. Take your FRN and search on the license search page. When it shows up on there you're good. They dont even issue paper license anymore.
Search by your frn

Are you willing to punch a hole for an NMO mount in your roof? Ideally id go center of roof with 1/4 wave antenna.
I run a fender mount L bracket on my XJ. Works well. I just run half wave there normally and a 1/4 wave on trails. Next time i have the headliner out though im punching the roof...
Well that's one way to do it :D I've got a crate motor waiting in the wings to go into my XJ. But I'm waiting on something a little more catastrophic than an oil pump. It already has a little blowby but has solid oil pressure and no funky noises. Waiting for my plug change interval to check...
I use Basecamp to draw up my routes then save them as a GPX file which nearly any map program out there can read. I have a Garmin GPS unit I no longer use sitting on my shelf that has lifetime maps and traffic. A Nuvi 1410 IIRC. Bought it years ago but no longer use it for anything else but...
I'm setup for it and registered with my local skywarn group but seems like everytime one comes though I'm home alone with the kids and taking them out (2 and 4) doesn't seem like a good time to me. Maybe when they get a bit older I'll take them out with me.
Oh those blueberry oats packages are amazing. One of my favorite. Was always happy when my MRE had one in it. When I found them in the mountainhouse shelf at the store I bought a bunch of them haha.
Does the "Overland" community have an identity crisis? Seems to be an awful lot of threads here and elsewhere debating what exactly "Overlanding" entails. Just get out there and enjoy it.
I used an online practice test site. Can't remember which one but it was free. Used that on and off during my free time for about 2 weeks and passed first go round.
Those Goal Zeros are awesome but pricey. I built my own out of a knock off pelican case, 3 UPS batteries and some odds and ends I gathered up on Amazon and that I had laying around. My total cost was the same or more than some of the options you listed. And it's not light as I use standard...
On the Jeep
Put a new spherical bearing and spring in the front drive shaft.
Put a new PL259 connector on my radio's coax
Installed caster adjustment shims on the lower control arms in an attempt to track down my front driveline vibes
