We used to live in Texas and we love Texas(my wife born and raised San Antonian). Back before 9/11 we used to go to Fort Hood and wheel all day there on their trails, so much fun as hundreds of people would show up to wheel for the day. After 9/11 they shut that down and that left the beach and...
Both the Yaesu and Kenwood APRS radios are great as you can tell by their price tags. I chose the Yaesu FTM400XDR because I like the touch screen and the ease at sending and reading texts messages with it over the Kenwood's (using the old school phone version to type B press the 1 button twice)...
From what I have read and have been told, the San Juans won't be open until the weekend of the 4th of July. They just started clearing the snow this past week and the first trail that they cleared was Yankee Boy. Silverton even cancelled their 4th of July celebrations.
I have ridden the Gap a few times on my bikes. Love that place, be safe. I have never taken a 4x4 up there but I am sure there are plenty of trails to explore there, especially down by the river.
If I told my wife that I was leaving the guns at home she would refuse to go and argue with me that I should not be going either. Better to have and not need, then to need and not have.
I think he left the women there so that he would have a trailer to come back to after running in to town. Crazy people out there wheeling nowadays will take everything that you own - cause they just don't care any more.
For those of us who have a spare tire on the rear and were in the military. Use your duffle bag. It works great and I have been using mine for a year now. Shoulder straps over the tire, feed them through the wheel and weave the straps through the buckles. Cool, different, nostalgic and free.
Welcome fellow Az'er. Does your ham radio use APRS? If so I was down in your area this past weekend camping and running around the Patagonia, Lochiel, Parker Canyon Lake, Sonoita areas.
I have a JK and I use a 52L. Plenty big enough for 3 days with 2 people. When it isn't in the Jeep it sits in our apartment being used along side the small refrigerator freezer that came with the place. Since it is a JK, that means that I had to remove the back seat in order to fit everything...
I just installed my FTM400XDR. The base is mounted on my Overland box behind the front seats. The head unit is up on the center storage area with velcro currently. Just installed it last week. I will have to get some pictures of everything tomorrow.
I like to listen to 80's rock & pop, 90's pop, Linkin Park, AC/DC, Eminem, Journey, Lady Antebellum, Carrie Underwood, Halsie... Anything but commercials.
I use a Viair 88 on my Jeep. I took the spare tire/wheel to a shop to have another tire valve drilled into the wheel. So, I hook up the air compressor to the battery, then run the air line to the spare tire. Then I attach another hose to the spare tire and run it to the tire that needs to be...
