Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the original Hi-Lift brand is the only one with a removable handle which can come in handy as extra leverage loosening things and we even used one to repair a steering linkage that was broken to get a buddy off the trail once. Can't do that with the handle on the...
Everyone be sure to vote, I'm going to set the poll to close Thursday so we can get the date and plans finalized and on the events calendar! We're trying to get the date that's best for the most people, so make yourselves heard!!
Pickup ARRL's book on stealth antennas and the wire antenna classics book has some ideas as well for stealth. The buddipole is neat but I think there are better options for use at home.
Vote on what dates would work for you in the poll at the top! I think for the first meet-up we're going to try something simple. A BBQ lunch at JJ's Meat Shak in Buena Vista, then go check out some of the forest service roads in that area. There are also two primitive campsites in the area for...
Also check and see if there's a Meetup going on in your area soon! @Chris Jones is over the "EAST" region and working on establishing a couple meetups in each state to get people together and build the community. There are currently three areas setup for Virginia actively working on starting a...
Well, this is mainly to get everyone local acquainted with each other and start building localized groups, but you'd be more than welcome to come! By itself, the Kickoff might not be worth the trip but if you want, I'm sure some of our group can recommend places to see while you are here and...
If I might add something Chris, we are using the map function to do group messages with info about the respective meet-ups. If you would all please verify your marker on the map is in the correct spot so we don't accidentally add you to a message. I've had a couple guys show interest in a...
Best streetable mud tires I've used. Interco TSL Boggers. I had 33's on my K5 and crawled them as well as ran 65mph on the highway bead balanced. Smooth running @40psi but short tread life I'd imagine and impossibly loud. No way I'd run them on a DD.
Good sets I've considered for my Xterra...
I don't really think that's embarrassing, it does happen. Maybe inconvenient is a better term? When @offroadohio and his crew came through last week, I had intended to throw my come-along and a few other things in the Xterra so when I followed them across the state line I could go do some solo...
Looks good! I'll have to get down there sometime and check that out!
*******EDITED 5/22/17 TO REWORK FIRST POST FOR REGULAR MONTHLY MEETS******
Report:
Well, I think we had a successful meet-up! J (ylojelo), Dwayne (shokilla), Comer (smalldog) and my crew met up for some good BBQ in Buena...
Looks like a fun ride! I need to find some more trails like that in my area. Hopefully if the meet-up takes off down here some of the guys can show me some.
I use gasket shellac or Permatex "Form-a-seal" instead of RTV for most parts. If I do use RTV, I generally apply a very small bead then smooth it out with my finger before install so it's a super thin film of it on there. No RTV on anything fuel or transmission related at all.
Very good fellas! It seems like it's a pretty good bet to have Ham, FRS/GMRS or CB. I guess I've got to work out a CB antenna for the Xterra and get the Cobra 75 I've been eyeballing. I have my 2m/44o setup and I'm getting ready to pick up a 857d from a friend for HF ability. I also need to nab...
