Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Wow, lmr400 is serious stuff for a mobile. I use it at home for my base setup. I'm using RG58 on a mag mount and a Tram dual band antenna and here in the mountains.
Anyways, I don't know what your landscape is like or where the repeater is located so you may indeed need the extra power. The...
I've only ever really needed more than the 5w low powers on my mobiles one time and 50w would BARELY get it done because of the terrain I was in. I think you'll be fine.
My oldest daughter has been after me to get her a hammock so she can go out with me so I finally picked her up an inexpensive one from Amazon. She made up her woopie slings from some Amsteel and we took it out Saturday for a test hang.
My Dad called at the last minute to say he was coming to...
They are great little stoves but can be finicky, especially if you get a used one like I have. The best advice I can give is get them out and run them at home when you have the time. Try fixing breakfast on one on the weekend or whip up something for supper. It's like anything else, practice...
Who all is planning on coming? I know Mike @witchdoctor_33 is, anyone else? I've got a route in mind that will go from over near Eagle Rock toward New Castle and we'll end up on 311. Not sure how long it'll take but Google is showing about 2.5hr, plus stops. There is a campsite close to the far...
You may want to check your control stem. I've had great luck controlling the temp on my 5 stoves. Sometimes it can also be that there's not sufficient pressure in the tank, I have had that trouble before as well.
You said it! I think there are enough vehicle specific forums and as much as I'd like a one stop shop, this forum is focused more on the overlanding side of things. Not to say it's a bad idea but I personally feel that it would clog the forum up with info that's already in dozens of places out...
I have a 897d for that reason and also have the ability to stick it in my Xterra for ARES work and am digital mode capable with my laptop and a Rig Blaster plug n play. I'm hoping to get some more experience with it during the October SET this year including some vhf p2p Winlink.
Who's free on the 23rd? It'll be the last weekend till probably early November that I have I can do anything. Lets get together and get into something!
It's all part of the same experience for me. I like being outdoors, I like being self reliant, and I like driving. It's also pretty peaceful out there, especially dispersed camping where you don't have to worry about other people wrecking it. I like tending a fire pit, cooking in general, and...
I've been using a hammock for a couple years now, but usually when I'm without the family. I just received a 2nd hammock to set up for my oldest daughter (or really all three of them). Now she can go with me on trips and I don't have to drag along the 4 man tent and everything to go with them...
Activity night at the club house on Monday, September 18th. 7pm till whenever we leave. If you'd be interested in a test session, let me know and I'll put you in touch with the lady that manages it.
Our local club has two meetings a month. One is club business and the second is an activity night with more of a show and tell nature about it. We've also had visitors we've helped get on the air and shown people how to setup their gear or use a new mode.
We do go out to supper as a group...
Your local Amateur radio club is the perfect place to learn more! You'll learn a lot about effectively communicating and the theory that our gear works on. I spent this evening with a great group of guys, talking about our different projects and upcoming Emergency training exercises and then...
