Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Nothing but washing it and air filter change recenty. Starting a big outage at work this weekend and that'll be adding some cash to the slider funds. Hoping to get my sliders ordered next month and maybe I'll have enough left to get my add-a-leaf's for the rear to get the 2" lift done when I...
This is why I'm actually pushing for FRS. They are cheap and easy and require no license, but they are a great entry level step into radio with decent range, good efficiency and decent sound quality. When the need or want for more power comes up, you step up to GMRS with it's license and...
Oh, here's a link to the poll about what people are using.

Welcome from over in Covington! There are groups around Richmond, NOVA and Roanoke doing meet-ups. Check the meet-up forum and the East section for more info!
Pretty much exactly what I said. A separate article, podcast or whatever later on if the initial one was a hit to dig deeper in and take that fear away and also help people understand what works and why.
Initially just explaining the differences in modes would help. Why 0.5W FM on FRS...
I think initially we would need to simply discuss the differences in modes between the radio services and why what works when it does. If it's popular, maybe do a separate thing on each service and its licensing requirements and then some on antennas, propagation and loading?
Well, people just don't seem interested in investing that in it. I've preached reliable coms for years in many different groups and until their cell phones let them down in an emergency, no one shows interest. I've found it best to recommend cheap HTs that people will buy and then they'll see...
Welcome! There are many threads discussing this and the consensus view is a collective "meh...".
In the most recent ride I was on there was a mix of FRS and CB, with myself being the only one with both available. I spent the day relaying from one to the other.
I believe that FRS should be...
Sounds good guys. I'll probably wind up with one of them then.
I'm not sure those blue ridge chairs are what I'm wanting. I want something compact, light and easy to deal with. I'm not so much liking for use at camp, but at stops along the way for lunch or just hanging out for a bit.
I sat in one of the Helinox Chair Ones this weekend and I rally liked it. For those that have it and the cheaper versions of it, do you think its handy for just popping up for a quick rest break on the trail?
Also, does it hold up ok to soft surfaces like sand and mud? I've seen that they sell...
We've tried it a bit here. My phone doesn't output it very loud even turned completely up. I much prefer an actual radio but it can be handy for groups if you have cell service. It also does drain the battery but it was also a useful tool during and after Harvey...
Well a little late but here are a few of the very few pictures I got from Saturday.
We left the Citgo around 10:30 and headed over to Roaring Run and walked around the old furnace there for a few minutes.
Then we headed west through Oriskany to Finwick Mines Campground and up the mountain...
Sounds ok. Usually under 1.5:1 is acceptable. What was the reading on 20? If it is between your other two readings, you can tune the tip pout a bit and shoot for getting the lowest reading on CH 20 and going up as you go toward either CH1 or CH40.
Well, Mike and I had a great time today. Covered some pretty ground and had a great supper at Mac and Bob's in Salem. Only got a few pictures so I'll try to get them up tomorrow.
I'm probably not going to be able to do much next month, if anyone wants to take it, have at it. I think Mike has...
Recently I've been going solo and it's been a flatiron ribeye in my castiron pan over my little Coleman single burner stove. Out in the woods is just a very nice place to enjoy a flatiron steak. Little salt, little pepper, dab of olive oil and GO! Really hits the spot.
Hate you can't make it man but I understand how that goes. Next month is pretty much out for me for anything because of work. Oh well, November should be pretty wide open though!!
As for anyone else who would want to come this weekend, the roads I have in mind are stock friendly and even 2wd...
