I know many of you have mounting points for your hi-lift on a bumper, basket, rack, etc. Do you keep your jack mounted there all the time, or take it down when you're not overlanding? How do you keep it clean, and how often do you lube it up?
It's important to make sure we keep the trails clean, even when it means picking up the slack for others. We don't want this sport spoiled for us, or to lose access to these beautiful areas. Conserving the areas for us and our children helps us keep things going for many years to come.
I have had a lot of problems with the Amazon Fire kids edition. They just aren't as stable as an iPad. If you have this as a primary nav, you're not gonna want to fight the device in the middle of nowhere... I'd go ad all the way.
Don't forget to take duty-cycle into account. A lot of the cheaper compressors take longer to fill a tire, but more importantly aren't designed to run continuously for long enough to reinflate all four tires. You may need to take a four minute(or more) break between filling each tire, and now...
You are absolutely right! My thought was along the lines of portable (i.e. handheld) versus something that you have to more tightly integrate with your rig. But as you say, the lines are blurry either way. I have a lot of other mods to do before I get that far, but solar is definitely on the list!
Awesome, and welcome! The DNR is working to get more state land opened up, but have been focused more on the UP. Down this way, there's very little from them. You're mostly stuck with private land, as far as I've found.
This is something I hadn't ever considered... how bad would the snow have to be blowing for your snorkel to accumulate all that much? Especially if you're worried about when you're parked?
We head down that way pretty often. Anytime between Labor Day and Memorial Day is going to be off-season, and give you a bit more alone time. Obviously the more towards winter you get, the less people you'll see.
This does look like a nice set of kits, but they seem to be marketing more as battery chargers/backups versus being a power supply system. Who are they owned by?
I second learning compass and topo from Boy Scouts. This is an invaluable skill. I also improved my skills when learning piloting. Give me a map and compass, and I'll be set.
