Planning has now started for the 2021 Aussie Iconic Tracks Expedition (Pt.3) - This massive trip will take us on some of the world's most challenging and remote 4WD tracks including:

- Bourke to Birdsville via Cameron Corner, the iconic Outback landmark where Queensland, South Australia and New South Wales meet
- Taking the most remote route across the Simpson Desert on the Madigan Line via the extremely challenging east to west route; (Birdsville to Alice Spring)
- Following the Canning Stock Route stretching a massive 1850km through Outback Western Australia (Halls Creek to Wiluna)
- Tackling one of Australia’s roughest
4WD tracks, the Gunbarrel Highway (Wiluna to Warburton)

Would like to find out more info if possible.
Sure mate, is there anything specific you would like to know?
These trips, especially the remote ones, take a fair bit of planning. So I have placed this event on our OB Event Board now in order to give people plenty of advanced notice.
To give you a flavour of what’s involved some of the distances we will cover are so great and so remote that it’s not unheard of to pre-order a fuel dump so there’s sufficient fuel between roadhouses (eg Well 23, Canning Stock Route). We will also travel through land managed by the traditional owners of the land (Australian Aboriginal) and as such we need their permission and special permits to travel along some routes. It’s also possible that tracks can get closed at short and again it’s not unheard of for people to be left stranded somewhere waiting for the tracks to re-open so we need to plan options/contingencies...so lots to take into account
As well as the organisation needed most people will need some time to prepare their rigs; The tracks we will be taking are pretty tough on vehicles, The Madigan Line for example is pretty hard going by itself but we’ve added an extra twist by heading east to west which is against the prevailing winds creating steeper ascents across the desert sand dunes. This as well as corrugations, ‘woopee-doos’, mud and rocks, in addition to the regular threat of kangaroos and emu’s running out in front of you mean you need an extremely well prepared rig.
Ideally everyone will have some basic off-road experience but as tough as this trip is by no means do they need to be seasoned 4WDrs. Much of where we will be heading will require more endurance than skill but no doubt there will be sections that will allow everyone to improve their driving techniques.

I will be publishing a more detailed itinerary for download with detailed routes, camp sites (where appropriate) dates, min setup/recovery/safety gear, etc. in the next 6-8 weeks so watch this space

Looking forward to the trip. The other thing to be mindful of is maintaining communication back home. Mobile phones won't be able to give adequate coverage, so a satellite phone would be quite handy to have.

Hi, how is our trip planning going? Do we need to touch base with you to put anything in place for next year. Hopefully the borders will have reopened in enough time to allow us to apply for the permits we willneed.
