Added 11/14/16:
OK, this has been tentatively scheduled for the last weekend in March 2017. Let's move forward and plan this date. This should be an awesome trip.
If any of you have questions about what vehicle requirements are, if you wonder if your vehicle is appropriately equipped for this trip, post up! I have been once in March of 2015 and have some idea, but I'm counting on those who have been more recently to advise as well.

Background: The Mojave Road is an historic road that runs basically from the Colorado River near the California/Arizona/Nevada border into the Mojave desert, terminating somewhere west of Baker, CA. More history to follow.

The general plan: March is a good time to visit, daytime temperatures are moderate, nighttime temps are tolerable if not chilly.

We'll meet at the Avi Casino just North of I-40 near the Colorado river. You have to go North from there to find the road. We'll start with that. This is an easy trail to jump out at various points if you need to make it shorter.

Proposed Dates: March 24 - 26, 2017 (Meet Friday Morning, hit the trail, finish Sunday afternoon)

Vehicle requirements: Although I've heard tales of VW Vans and Pontiacs taking this trail, I would suggest at least stock 4WD as some of the trails can best be navigated with added traction. This is not a difficult trail but 3 days on dirt roads can be demanding. Small trailer friendly is my estimation as well.
Let's discuss more if you have questions about your particular vehicle and equipment.

Watch this thread for the occasional update as things progress or change.

...and here's March 2017.

Hey dan when we ran it in may of this year the road was really easy. The detour from fort piute is narrow and you get pin stripes but nothing hard at all. If enough traffic has been on the road the soft sandy areas will be easy and packed down. Soda lake can be a problem if it has rained recently so we might have to detour it. You can do this trail in a stock vehicle.

@pabloquiros thanks for the leg-work on that, good info and plenty of time for planning ahead.
I think when it gets closer, maybe, what... 6 weeks before? people may be able to commit as much as possible and then we can get a better count - all welcome, even jeeps (small j :tonguewink:).

@O.Dfj I've heard that Soda Lake can be impassable early in the year, we do need a plan B for that but can decide on the spot I think with that, right? Kinda sad about the detour, that little canyon was really fun to drive, I wonder it there's a real plan to recover that part of the trail or they'll just let it go back to nature..?

Liking the chatter so far on this, I'm really looking forward to this for so many reasons.

The detour is pretty cool you go by old mines. I have my mojave guide book at home I can see if there is a detour for soda lake. We could head to the highway if needed and get to afton canyon to finish the trail. That would bypass the water crossing.

The nice part of the detour is, you have a nice reason to return and do the standard trail when it's repaired!

I'm certain they will get it back in shape at some point. It's just a matter of when.

So now I am thinking.. As long as I get the Wife on board 100%, we will head to avi casino Thursday mid day, stay overnight at the avi hotel casino, then get the trip started with everyone on Friday morning... This might make her happy to get at least one nights sleep in a nice room first. For those thinking about doing something like this, rooms are running about $60 for the night.

Good deal.. Wife are in talks right now.. I'm hoping to make this happen. Running the entire Mojave road has been on my bucket list of trips for quite a while...
