Been doing some research on Mojave Road and came across this web site. The web site includes campsites, side trips and Mojave Road features. The Balancing Rock campsite looks pretty cool.

Yep, that is THE guide / website for that area. Written and maintained by folks who genuinely love that area and want to keep it open for all to enjoy.
It's a good one to support, they advocate responsible adventure in that area, it seems they want everyone to know the history.

And look at that, it's 9:00 PM in the middle of November and it's 72° in Goffs! Awesome. That's why I love the desert in the winter.

OK All, looks like out of the 6 people that actually voted in the poll, the last weekend in March "wins".

That said, it's a long ways off, but lets start planning toward that date for this potentially awesome trip.

I'll continue to update Post #1 with details as they come in, along with additional background, etc.

If you've never been, this is not a rockcrawlers dream come true, more of an historical tour through some relatively rough and sometimes inhospitable country.

All are welcome, but be advised, vehicle requirements as well as self-sufficient camping experience and equipment will be discussed further to make sure everyone has a good time and no one is un-informed.

Looking forward to this!

Regards, Dan.
Sounds good. I'd definitely like to hear about what the suggestions - requirements for an extended trail ride would be, I have never done trail rides that last over a day or two. So I imagine from a "mechanical" standpoint there are some things we should be bringing. Definitely want to pick your brain a bit.

For me, there's not much difference between a one day trip and a one week trip as far as mechanical prep goes. I carry along all the same stuff because I may break something on day one or day five and I feel like I want to be prepared for it all. Some of the things I might add are a wilderness toilet (PETT) and a way to shower including a way to heat water. I like a good shower after about day two! And I also carry more water, especially when going to the desert. 10+ gallons for three days usually does it.

The difference really is in how you prep and think about food and shelter. Of course everything has to fit in the rig, and you want to eat right all days, and there's no Carl's Jr. along the way.
I really count on my fridge for keeping food fresh but it can be done any way you like with some planning.
You can do the early prep, do your shopping before you leave home, or stop at a store along the way, I've done both, I'm a little more like 'get it done and travel heavy' method.

I'm interested to hear how others prep food-wise.
I like to make a decent breakfast, maybe eggs, bacon or breakfast burritos, lunch is on the trail, easy sandwiches and fruit.
Dinner is a lot of fun, usually some kind of beef or chicken, cooked on an open fire or the skottle with some veggies, etc.

For this trip, we'll plan:
Lunch Friday probably at the Avi Casino before we hit the trail. Saturday & Sunday on the trail - sandwiches, fruit, easy veggies.
Dinner - Friday and Saturday on the trail - cook it up, give it your best shot! Sunday on the road home, back to road food!
Breakfast - Friday before you leave home or on the road, Saturday & Sunday, cook it up! Eggs, bacon, or Cold cereal, sweet rolls and coffee - whatever turns your crank!

Let's hear how you do it!

I did that run at the same time last year. You will enjoy it. Everything was in bloom and the temps were perfects. The water crossing was pretty deep at the end, just be prepared for it.

Good luck and hope you all enjoy.

It was over my tires (33") last year. Im set up to ford water so it wasn't too big a deal. Need to take care of your diff breathers and know where your air intake is. Solid bottom.

This looks like the one just past the railroad tracks? I remember this one being a shorter distance but a little deeper, surprised me a bit. All are do-able, a friend I was with drove through with a brand new stock 4runner with no drama.

This was in May of 2016 I did fill my diff full of water and it blew up. Long story short, make sure Toyota puts the diff beather back in before you do water crossings. Toyota ate a really expensive bill. My cousins 1990 f150 on 31s went across no problem.
