Cerro Gordo Ghost Town & Saline Valley Hot Springs

  • HTML tutorial
395 North to Keeler

Keeler Up the Trail to Cerro Gordo Ghost Town (about 9,000 feet elevation, gets snow)

*Make sure you call the care taker ahead to let him know your group is coming up. It is private property.

Down the backside of Cerro Gordo to Saline Valley Hot Springs

*This is a steep grade, narrow trail, switch backs, large rocks. Suggest short wheel base trucks or high clearance. 4WD Low is required

The drive once at the bottom of the grade to Saline Valley is very easy, but was covered in washboards. If you have anything loose it will fall off.

I miss exploring around that area. I have been to the Salt Tram tenders house a couple times. It is north up the Cerro Gordo road from where you turned off to go down to Saline Valley. It has views of the Saline valley and when you turn around you're looking at Mount Whitney. I also heard someone or group from LA has purchased Cerro Gordo. Sounds like they are more willing to share the place. The last owner was cranky as hell and wouldn't let anybody in there.

Did this run with my dad a few years back, but I remember starting the trail in Swansea. Was a great day of exploring and got to see all kinds of neat old buildings and scenery. It's very beautiful country. I can't wait to get back there.
