I have the same Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 and the Nikon 35 f/1.8 DX lens. To add to that list the Nikon 12-24 f/4 is absolutely amazing and one of my all time favorite APS-C landscape lenses. Tokina offers a similar lens for less than you'll find the Nikon offering, but I haven't run that lens before...

I read some really good books like Understanding Exposure and shot hundreds of thousands of frames working on specific skills and techniques I wanted to try to master. I've since wrote my own beginner's how-to photography book that condenses a lot of how I approach photography into easy to...

Here, I shot this years ago with a Nikon D3000 and an 18-55 kit lens. Photography is a lot about what you do, not what your camera can do.

Wilson Cell Signal Mobile Amplifier Review

I haven't noticed any problems with the GPS and I really wouldn't expect there to be due to the different frequencies used between the two systems, it could have been problems with a cheapo version not transmitting properly. I have no idea about internationally, you would probably want to look...

Wilson Cell Signal Mobile Amplifier Review

In my personal experience, with my specific installation and usage, when stationary I can typically get a couple of bars of 3G if I can sniff a bar of 1x. If I can get a bar of 3G I can usually get a couple of bars of 4G. I haven't conducted any data transfer speed comparison tests beyond what...

Those also put out something like 4-watts of power with a better tuned antenna than our handhelds now, that put out something like 4-milliwatts of power. The frequency shift for cell service over the years makes a slight difference, but it dramatically increased the bandwidth for information...

Wilson Cell Signal Mobile Amplifier Review

I've been running one for 2 years. Changing from the small magmount antenna to a larger mast antenna ("trucker antenna") made a big difference too! While in motion it doesn't perform as well as being stationary (obviously), but it works really well.

These are from our big trip this summer (which we called The Cities of Gold Family Adventure). We went to Guadalupe Mountains National Park and backpacked/0vernighted on the mountain with the kids, North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce. It was a lot of fun and the planning for next...

I'm former LE and did the same before grabbing the cutaway handle and going to the civilian side 3 years ago. You're one of the few who have peeked behind the curtain and know the hard truths about traffic safety, it is a blessing and a curse.

    Overland Bound Regions!

Fun! I would argue that Texas is it's own region, but I get it. :tonguewink: There is a large and active FB group of Texas Overland that has a lot of KMZ files of Texas routes stored in the "files" section of the FB page. I'm not sure if you're wanting to get them on board with you (...

Bumped into OB#1582 while in Big Bend NP between Christmas and New Years. We saw each others rigs at Santa Elena but didn't get a chance to chat until days later in The Basin.

Took the family overnight backpacking to the South Rim in Big Bend National Park. The before photo: Bumped into another OB member while in the park The unimproved roads were great as always, although it has been nearly 15 years since I drove on River Road.

I've spent about 30 days in the park and I haven't come close to seeing it all. :grimacing: Three days would give you a "highlights" tour, hit Santa Elena, Lost Mine, The Window, Cattail Falls, Hot Springs and the various scenic overlooks, but if you want to see some of the really neat...

I forgot about that one. Boy do I love me some Big Bend, we're headed back over New Years to take the kids on the South Rim for an overnight backpacking venture. If we're lucky we'll be able to base camp down in the Pine Canyon sites. Since this is a photo thread this is "Four Fingers Until...

Here are a couple from our big trip this June. We hit the Tetons, Yellowstone, Glacier, Arches and Mesa Verde over three weeks and frankly it's nearly impossible to take good photos in locations like those! Although the selfie-stick wars in Yellowstone with the herds of full sized tour buses...

Sorry I've been away from this thread for a while and didn't see this post. Rokinon lenses have become popular for the video crowd, many of the lenses being available with geared zoom and focus rings for video rigs. Only recently have they offered autofocus lenses, some of their other/older...
