Got back home from the work week to find more parts and tools had arrived:
I found the box with the hydraulic lash adjusters so I could soak them in some Rotella:

I haven't actually done the blower motor itself, or the heater core. Just the resistor for the blower motor which is usually the actual problem. I am NOT looking forward to doing the blower motor and heater core "someday."

For some reason this WJ really like's to run 80-85 indicated, which is probably closer to 90 since I haven't corrected for the tires yet. I actually have to keep myself from doing it. The engine is just in a sweet spot and it's moving right along... but it really sucks down fuel at that point...
Yup. I have a good winch-kit from previous vehicles with snatch blocks, tree savers, etc. Back when everything was steel cable we'd also carry these deals that were kind of like a plastic blanket to throw over the cable, but they had pouches on either side to fill with some dirt, sand or...

Back when I went to Hollister HIlls a lot there were days where that's all we'd do. We also help with a ton of recoveries out in Glamis. It's fun, it's good CARma, and it gives you an excuse to go out and have somewhere to find...

That sounds like a VERY cool project! I'd love to hear more about it, perhaps even start a thread on the system? These days the Holley EFI (and even Megasquirt I used on my last big LS-powered sand rail) are SO good it's hard not to use them... but as you pointed out you won't be able to pass...
For some reason I thought I already replied in this thread, but I guess not. I use this: I'd like to do on-board air with a big tank eventually, but right now this gets the job done and is much easier to move from vehicle to vehicle. When I still had a big Class A RV that ran 315/85-22.5...
I'm surprised I didn't find this thread sooner... I usually find all the WJs, especially here in CA. I have a '03 Overland and also have IRO's Rock-Link but only 4" (for now). Here's my thread: 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Build
Are you planning to lock the stock D30/44A or swapping...
The basic rule of thumb is: don't go out any further with one rig than you're capable and prepared to hike back from.
Of course, with modern comms you can stretch that some. Look into a InReach device if you're going to do it. These devices can send comms including SOS with your location from...
Another Grand, right on! Like you said, that's a very reliable combo and you obviously have the knowledge, skills and access to parts to make it dead-nuts! Mine is probably on the other end of the reliability spectrum for Grands (4.7 HO in an Overland with all the fancy climate control and...
Really cool Disco, they're still one of my favorites. Bummer about the engine troubles, but at least the vendor stepped up and covered a new engine for you. Much like the 4.7 in my WJ I know heat is the enemy of those 4.6s... have you already done cooling mods (apologies if you already covered...
