Jerry Can, Rotopax, etc. which do you like?

I have rotopax (2&4 gallon + 2 gallon h20) because I got a deal on craigslist. The slim profile is nice for mounting but it’s still just an overpriced gas can. If space or mounting options aren’t an issue, there are for more cost effective options, including Jerry cans.

    2003 Ford Ranger Edge Plus

I haven't really thought much of Rangers, until now. Looks good. I really like that rack. Good job.

What is your must cook meal or must have food for camping.

I love my smoker but it is not portable. What are you cooking with there? How do you like it?

    Oklahoma overlanders where ya at?

Are you all ready to make this happen or what? Weekends are questionable for me now and only getting busier as we get into the Spring. My oldest daughter is on a traveling volleyball team and I have several trips planned. If there are other interests parties though, I'd like to help make this...

    Any Backpackers out there?

I was thinking I might try and do the southern route to Grants and take highway the rest of the way. I am booked solid in 2018 and the southern portion will likely be way out of my way. I could easily pick up the northern portion on my way to Ouray at the end of the summer though.

    Any Backpackers out there?

I frequent NM (enchanted circle area) and have been interested in doing NMBDR. I’ll be driving from Big Bend to Denver in March. How much of this route do you think would be doable? I’m guessing most of it will be blocked by snow.

    Texas Hill Country

Bummer. This is my first year doing this one but I’ve heard nothing but good about it. There are lots of big boulders. I’ll have a day or two to kill there too so I’ll be on the lookout for other stuff. If I come across anything buzzworthy, I’ll report back.

    Texas Hill Country

The Jamboree is actually on a private ranch that they only open for the Jamboree.

    Texas Hill Country

I’m doing a Jeep Jamboree in Llano in March. I’ll be checking these areas out too. Thanks for sharing.

    Chain Saws

Ive been looking at the 12” version of these too. I wouldn’t consider them for heavy use but I already carry batteries for my impact driver. You wouldn’t have to carry an extra fuel can and if you wanted to use one in a camp ground, they’re quiet. I have no personal experience with them though.

    Greetings from the Midwest

Welcome and congrats on owning the 2nd coolest vehicle on the trail. IMO don’t spend your money on a roof rack if you are building a trailer, just put your money towards the trailer. Cons for roof rack: 1. Reduces overhead clearance on trails 2. Some can inhibit your ability to go topless...

    31’st birthday trip. Suggestions?

I would suggest Moab &/or Ouray on your way back. Other than Carlsbad, I think you are going to wish you had more time at your other locations, even at the expense of skipping something. If you plan on hitting more National parks this year, you might want to consider an annual pass. It’s $80 and...

Sleeping with a c pap machine

On behalf of everyone in the campsite of those of you bringing your cpaps, let me say, Thank you. My dad never took me camping but if I got stuck in a car, hotel room, pretty much anywhere he was sleeping, I would go insane. He was so loud that once, when another kid was spending the night at my...

    Sourcing firewood

When we built our house, we put a ton of hickory floors in. Those flooring scraps burn great. I used them as fire starters in my fire place for a long time. If you can find a floor installer or builder who will let you have some flooring scraps, that stuff is awesome.

What is your most versatile, cross-over type gear?

We have a little hybrid camper that is light enough to tow behind my Jeep (for short relatively flat trips), a tent for camping and I am gaining more interest in multi-day kayaking trips. So, as I look at new gear, I am always trying to find the best option that will work for all three...

    Sleeping Bag Choices

I just got a Big Agnes Hog Park (20 degree bag). It is designed to be used with their sleeping pad so I got that too. My first impressions are that the sleeping pad is surprisingly comfortable. I'm a big guy, 6'5" 240lb and the bag felt roomy to me. It might work for you what you are looking...

    Solo, Co-pilot, or Group?

I prefer to go with other vehicles but if they aren't available, I'll strike out on my own. I did find myself in a pickle on Poughkeepsie one evening close to dark. I had been running with some other guys all day and had a great time. They were done for the day but I decided to try and get one...

    Chain Saws

I have 3 stihl saws. They are good saws. The longer bars are handy but you don't need anything big for trail use. A lighter weight saw will take up less space (if that's an issue) and you can run them all day without getting worn out.
