Doh, that's a bummer. Glad you got it re-seated and were able to drive out without switching to the spare.
I have my Staun deflators set to 15-18 psi and have not had any issues or found the need to go lower (no beadlocks).
A lot of the risks involved in offroading can be minimized by using common sense.
1. It is always a good idea to go with at least one other rig. This gives you another set of eyes and hands, a way to get pulled out of a bad spot, and at worst another running vehicle to drive into town to get...
The good news is that there are a lot of fun trails within 4-5 hours of the Bay Area. I'm happy to make some recommendations, just want to make sure they are appropriate. It sounds like you enjoy rock crawling. Is your 4Runner stock, or do you have a lift, tires, sliders, etc?
Unfortunately I...
My concern is with the large number of threads on this forum with titles like "Am I an overlander?", "What vehicle/gear do I have to buy to be an overlander?", and "What is overlanding?" that are giving too much power to what is essentially a meaningless term.
"Overlanding" can truly mean...
To be honest, when I think of "overlanding" I think of a long list of hashtags at the bottom of a picture of a very clean truck that isn't being used anywhere near the limits of its capability.

In my opinion you would definitely need a low range and more clearance to run the entire trail. Historically the entrance on the Lake Alpine side has been fairly easy, but it was recently re-routed and I've heard it is now much more difficult. The last time I ran Slickrock was a few years ago...
I have two Accu-Gauges and they are within a psi of eachother.
Last year I purchased a JACO, but returned it because it was several psi off of my other gauges.
We are pretty lucky in that regard since she'll eat pretty much anything. For snacks in the car we bring bunny crackers, apple sauce pouches, raisins, etc. At meals she eats whatever we are having. On a recent trip we had grilled pork loin, garlic bread, salad, and smores the first night and...
I'm a fan of Sonoran Steel lifts.

The 7.2 adds minimal lift but a better ride on and offroad. The 1.2 is the same height in the front, but is likely taller than in the rear than you would...
My daughter is a little over 2 and a half and has spent 5 nights in the tent so far this year. Every kid is different of course, but here is some general input.
On the road/trail
We've found that 4-6 hours is about the maximum time she will be in the car before getting antsy or crabby. Having...
As pointed out above the Adventure Index drawers designed for the 4th gen 4Runner mount to some factory bolt holes behind the rear seats and "tensioned straps" are used to mount to the tie downs near the hatch. Unfortunately I haven't uploaded a picture of how the wings are held down, but...
Without solid lifting points a High Lift is not really useful for jacking up the truck. You could use a trailer hitch to lift the back, but most trucks don't have good factory lift points on the sides or the front. As mentioned above you could get a lift-mate and lift a wheel, but given that one...
Sorry for the confusion, I put waterfalls in quotes because that wasn't really the focus of the trip but we ended up exploring 5 different falls.
- Hedge Creek falls in Dunsmuir
- Lower, middle, and upper McCloud Falls
- McArthur-Burney Falls
It would depend on if I could remove the blockage safely and without any possibility of environmental damage. If there was any question about this then I would turn around and head back.
Keep in mind that you might need more water than you might expect, especially if you are going to have a campfire that needs to be doused and you are not near a lake or a stream. I put a bucket under my water jug and collect the runoff from washing hands, this is then dumped on the fire when I...
Your truck is very capable in stock form and doesn't really need anything to get out on the trail. I'd recommend common sense items like a first aid kit and fire extinguisher, but otherwise just go out and start exploring. That is the best way to see what (if anything) you need to upgrade.
