I used a CLC 1173 for a few years and it held up really well.
Eventually I ran out of space in the tool roll and moved to a small tool bag which has worked for the last 9 years or so.

I've been eyeballing that road for some time now, especially when driving by it several times this summer. It looks like there is a spur to the top of Hawkins Peak that could be interesting. If you do check it out, or get information about the current status, please let us know.
If you are...
@El Solis, I'm glad to see the patient was up and walking that quickly after the incident.
Thank you for the details on tourniquet use and clotting agents. Based on your comments I'm thinking of adding some Quickclot to my first aid kit.
I'm really enjoying your posts, thank you for taking the time to write them up and share your knowledge.
Is that the muscle being exposed at the bottom of the injury? That picture really drives things home, though I'm surprised at the lack of extensive bleeding.
Two questions:
1) Can you...
When transporting eggs I just keep them in the container they come in and put them in the fridge. Over dozens of trips ranging from rock crawling to high speed dirt trails I've yet to break an egg, but I acknowledge the risk is there and I might just have been lucky. I like the idea of...
Given the (likely intentional) lack of detail in the original post I tried to think a bit out side of the box and not just assume a simple cut on the finger, and that led to a much longer post than I initially meant to write.
I had not heard that recommendation against applying direct pressure...
Cool project.
I suspect the Raspberry Pi can't source enough current or voltage on a GPIO pin to directly drive a relay. If that is the case then you could use the GPIO pin to switch a transistor, and then use the transistor to control the relay.
Or you could by a board already setup for this...
I know you mentioned that you switched to a smaller bar, but I was interested in the specs of the original bar. Is this the one you were considering?
As you noted 648w is 54A @ 12v. I'm really surprised by this number given that a high quality Rigid 50" dual row lightbar draws about 1/2 as...
I built a power supply many years ago using a 28aH battery. It's heavy, but lasts 2 nights even in near freezing temperatures.
Here are a couple other threads on the subject.

I would check to make sure that the scene is safe to approach, I don't want to become an additional victim. Based on the description of the scenario there is no obvious risk to others. If I was cooking, using a sharp edge, or moving a car I'd want to quickly make...
I'm a big fan of Bilsteins and have the 5100s on my 4Runner and am considering the 6112/5160 combo for my Tacoma, except that I don't think the 5160s are long enough. The standard 3rd gen 4Runner brakes tend to fade, I have the sport model which has larger diameter front rotors and they are...
I absolutely agree with your points. My post was focused on the original question in this thread and I intentionally aimed to error on the side of caution. After the original poster has more experience then they can adjust the level of risk they are willing to take.
After writing that all up I started to feel the same way. :) But... to be fair these issues were all relatively minor and occurred over the last ~20 years and dozens of trips, so I can chalk it up as experience.
It sounds like your truck is fairly well set up. There are many trails in Northern California that could be a good fit, two you might want to look into are Genoa Peak up near Tahoe and Corral Hollow off highway 4. If you are looking for a longer trip we always like heading to Bodie using the...
In 2003 three friends and I ran the Rubicon Trail in an XTerra and a Pathfinder that both had only 32" tires and rear lockers. The XTerra had bald all terrains on it. This was before they blew up the Gatekeeper and Little Sluice.
It took us three full days to get all the way from Loon Lake to...
The friends I wheel with and I have had a few notable incidents. None of these were "end of the world" type of problems, but they are examples of the types of small issues that can be a hassle.
- At night on the way to Niagara Rim the power steering pulley on my old ZJ exploded and it threw the...
