There are million and one answers to this question, and the only person that knows which is right for you, is you. You could buy a $5k rig and throw $25k at it. You could buy a $30k rig and not throw a dime at it. Or anywhere in between.
A lot of us will have opinions, and a lot of that will...
Sorry it's not super-clean in the pics, I washed it but then it sat for a few days and got rained on. It's normally stored indoors when not in use, but I had it out for the pics. Please note, there are rock chips, trails stripes etc. because it gets used but I think the pics show all of that...
Another price-drop, and a bunch of additional pics:
Lots of room for storage here, the 5gal bucket I use for the sink drain so you don't make a muddy mess of your kitchen area. The Rock Auto box is a set of OEM matching lug nuts for the Trailhawk wheels (it has aftermarket spline-drive lugs...
Hey Overlandbound folks,
I thought I'd make this available here first.
First, let me address why I'm selling, as I'm sure it'll come up as the first question. In short, I'm buying a Four Wheel Camper slide-in for my pickup truck, because it suits my life better right now. I actually work in...
No. Never. Lol. I tend to make things difficult, and my work/life situation adds to that. I keep making changes to try to simplify, but I'm not sure I'm actually achieving that.

Fair 'nough, and I don't disagree. Like I said, if I was buying new for something like a FWC (or basically anything below, let's say 12k lbs towing) I'd be looking at the 7.3 Ford gasser - and this coming from a "Chevy/Duramax guy." I still think filtration and a lift pump is a great idea for...
The CP4.2 is problematic, but 20-75k is pretty inaccurate. 100+k is the accepted standard for the *potential* to have problems. They do have a way higher failure rate than they should, but it's not like EVERY one fails. I replaced my CP4.2 at about 100k miles as preventative maintenance. It...
If I was going new, for the purpose of a Four Wheel Camper I'd get a gasser, to be honest. I love my 2011 Silverado 2500HD (Duramax diesel, Allison trans) and it's far and away been the best truck I've ever had. But, somehow maybe the DEF/DPF/Cat/etc. all might have fallen off at around 5k...
Just as an example, came across this on FB in one of the WJ groups I'm in:
"2002 jeep grand cherokee. 4.7l v8 engine. selec trac transfer case. 4" rough country long arm lift kit. dropped pitman arm. double steering stabilizer. new wheels and tire. cut out fender flares. new front axles and...
Drive a 4.7 WJ, then a 4.0 and you'll change your mind. They just need the heads done to be reliable. The heads themselves are cheap (a set w/ the upgraded seats are ~$700), but it's a bit of a biatch to work in the engine bay of a WJ. The 4.0 just isn't enough for the WJ, and doesn't suit...
I don't think it's realistic to think a $10k, 15 year old rig will have *no* issues. But I do think it's possible to buy a ~$10k rig that will be reliable and not break you with *major* failures.
This is normally where I rant and rave about WJs (2nd Gen Jeep Grand Cherokees), and I do think...
