Its up to you. The MXTs have some limitations but are a turn key solution. I would personally go to a commercial surplus radio like a Motorola or a Kenwood. They can be had for 100 dollars or less and are beefy and capable of doing split tones and go wideband.
The MXTs are stuck on...
I'm just going to order online. I hit up Collin County off road. Wasn't real impressed. They kind of acted like I was interrupting their BS session in the front office. Asked about the OHV sticker they said "We still don't have any, sorry man."
Off topic but I got to spend a few days on Wake Island to and from Thailand for training exercises. The folks stationed there hunt rats for fun. The island is infested with them and they're quite large. Some of them use pellet guns, some slingshots stuff like that. Others who had grown bored...
I've got a free day to get out and about but can't be gone over night due to dogs needing to be taken care of. I will be leaving Greenville, Tx. at about 0700 Saturday Morning (29th Feb) and heading for Hugo which is about a 1.5 hour drive from Greenville and will be taking the next section of...
I'll be swinging by an off road ship just east of McKinney off of 380 on my way home today. I'll let you know if they have any. They're listed on the state website as being a seller.
The vast majority of my work I do myself. When it comes time to replace the engine in my Jeep I'll probably farm that out to a trust local shop as I'll need it done somewhat quickly and I don't have the right equipment to make it easier. Overhauling axles again, I'll farm that out as I don't...
My GMRS shows a Rowlett repeater but ive tried to contact the owner with no luck. Try the Greenville repeater i can regularly hit that from Wylie and Mckinney and the ower is ok with any licensed user using it.
Im regularly monitoring the Overland Bound GMRS channel. I currently commute from...
I started on stick and moved to MIG later. Though these arent MIG welders.
MIG (or flux wire in this case) is like diving an automatic.
@Boostpowered i havent done any mods to mine. Just welded stuff with it. Theyd need to be conveted to DC since they are AC welders out of the box.
90 amp and the first thing I did was toss the HF wire in the garbage and get a new spool, what little welding I did with the HF spool was a mess, no matter how I adjusted the unit I couldn't get a clean weld, apparently that's a common complaint with the unit is the spool that comes with it, is...
I'm a maybe. The wife is going to be out of town for a dog show all weekend and if I've got both kids with me I won't be going. Hauling them both around an event like that alone is not my idea of a good time.
I looked into them a few months ago and the Chinese units had generally favorable reviews. Now that it's getting to spring time it's back on the backburner so to speak.
There's a few machine shops down here in Greenville that can probably do the work for you. FWIW I welded my sliders together with a flux core welder (Harbor Freight haha) and I can pick the whole side of the Jeep up with a high lift jack with no issue, never even had the welder overheat...
Generally agree but you basically hit on the reason why amateur radio exists, and why GMRS exists. It's not for just general communications though it can be used for that. It exists as a space for people to experiment and play with the inner works of radios and as a side deal for emergency...
