Good points. This when this question is asked I start off by asking what level of medical training someone has. The OP sounds like he's just looking for a replacement bag so it sounds like he may have some kind of medical training. But if he was building one from scratch or trying to buy a...
My only issue with cast iron is weight. In the Jeep no big deal but the only piece of cast Iron I bring with me anymore is my griddle. If I can't cook it on a griddle I probalby don't want to eat it anyway.
Surprisingly one of the best fuel cans I've ever had has been one of those safety spout cans that you have to push the button to open. It's 5 gallons, and it's cheap and it fits well in my storage area. I sometimes take it and when I do I just put it in the cargo area since I don't carry stuff...
Wont' be a problem. It's a state park but there's no gates or anything to go though. In fact going from the BLM land north of I10 into the Anza Borrego the only sign you've went from BLM land to state land is a small road type sign. Which end are you coming in from, North or South?
You're preaching to the choir here man. You're talking in many cases folks that have no interest in making radio any kind of hobby and just to turn a knob and have it work. It's why CB is still dominant in many areas of the country with GMRS slowly gaining ground and HAM lagging way behind...
I'm not speaking to you being unsafe. I'd be more worried about a pissed off landowner who's also armed finding me illegally shooting on their property.
To me that would be the issue is getting a group of folks together in the first place to get on one page with comms is a difficult proposition in itself, getting them to invest another 80 to 100 dollars for a basic low power APRS setup is going to be another hurdle.
Once you get past that it...
I used to carry 5 gallons with me out there. Never once used it for it's purpose. Usually when setting up camp that night I'd dump it in my tank just to move the weight in there instead of in my cargo area. Fill up at on of the many gas stations surrounding the area before you go in and...
I understand that. But if I'm in a "convoy" we're probably not spread out over a whole state. And if we're so spread out we're outside of VHF voice comms the convoy is too big haha.
I lived about 2 hours west of Fort Worth up till I was about 18 then again for a few years a few years when I was stationed in Fort Worth, then moved to East Texas after I got out of the military. Which Hunt County is barely considered East Texas. Any rancher/farmer letting people shoot on...
Eh not really. If im close eough for an APRS text message im proabably close enough for voice contact.
I could see the map tracking being useful but to get everyone setup for that is a chore in and of itself.
The shooting culture in Cali was great when I was stationed there. I shot competition a lot at a range in Alpine (Lemon Grove Rod and Gun Club) and did a ton of shooting in the National Forrest and BLM areas out in the desert east of Alpine. I had far more shooting freedom there as far as...
BTECH UV50X2 I've also got a pile of surplus namebrand commercial gear and a Yeasu FT90R flying around. Tucked into the side pocket of my passenger seat is a Motorola MTS2000 and then there's a handheld in my get home bag as well.
Never hurts to have a trans cooler even if you aren't towing anything. A cool transmission is a happy transmission. I don't tow heavy things but still hvae one in my Jeep along with a gauge.
I wouldn't personally bother with that gizmo. Hamocans are neat and this one looks well built but that is NOT a 25-50 watt radio as the reviewer (who appears to know very little about radios overall) says it is, it's a 10 watt VV-898 dual band radio. It's a 60 dollar radio. I ran one for...
