Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
I'm pretty poor so I do the same thing. However, a NEW HT is in my future, I just have not decided what I want yet. One of the tri-band Kenwoods is in the running though as well as possibly a DMR rig.
I'm not going to make the OH ride this year. I lucked out and was off New Year's Eve last year but I'll be working this go round. I expect it'll be a good time though.
OK folks, there's been no more input so here's what I'm thinking. I've not been to Beamers or Parkway so we'll start at Mission BBQ and we can move it for subsequent meetings if we want to.
Sunday January 20th at 3pm at the Mission BBQ in Roanoke, Va at Towers Mall.
That should be after the...
For best results, any of your contact points need to be sanded clean of paint so it's bare metal to bare metal. You can put a light coat of copper anti-seize the to help prevent rust. You also should put a ground strap (1/2" wide tinned copper braid) between the tailgate and the body.
Just...
It will probably receive ok. A dual band would work better since it's also tuned for a closer band but they are going to be longer. My dual band Tram is about 18".

It seems like a nice radio for the money. It's just getting that money! I'm planning some "shack standardization" soon. I'd like to sell off all my various brand radios and pick one particular one to standardize on, that'll be a bank breaker when I finally make the decision on that. I...
Neither of these off a great ground plane since the roof rack bars aren't usually grounded to the body. You'd want to have a good wide ground strap from the mount over to a good ground on your roof to use them effectively. You really have to be weary of that kind of thing, it can make or break...
I don't have the Midland. I have a dual band Ham on mine. I use a GMRS HT. I don't know if the Midland RX the WX freqs or not.
I have been considering the smaller Midland recently though.
Ok everyone! Here's the results of the poll.
Looks like Sunday and Saturday are the most voted for and a meetup in the afternoon won out easily.
We've also had Parkway, Beamers and Mission BBQ suggested for the location.
I've never been to Parkway or Beamers, so what are everyone's...
