Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Baofeng radios are only FCC type accepted for Business Class (except their GMRS radio) and 8W exceeds the power limits for GMRS and FRS on most channels:

You'll need the GMRS license to use the higher power on the upper channels. It's $75 for...
You need to keep in mind that the towing capacity of the JKUR is relatively limited. The newer ones are just 3500lb even though they have the class III receiver. I'm not sure what the older ones are. The wood floored 5x7 with gear may get you close to the max and without brakes off-road, that...
BROG is local to me. Matt and Adam are really nice guys and have always been good to me.
They are currently relocating to a new production/store facility so that may explain some of the current delays.
It's a ham fest. With so many folks getting interested in getting their ham license for communication use, and also a few hams close to Richmond, I thought folks might be interested in knowing about it.
Just move the axle from on top of the springs to under them. You'll have to weld on new spring pads to retain the "alignment" with the bend in the axle in the proper direction but that's not that hard to do. It'll net you the diameter of the axle plus the thickness of the springs in lift or...
How much gear are you talking about carrying? The higher up you put the weight, the more unstable your vehicle will become.
What kind of terrain are you wanting to go out into as well? A simple axle flip on your trailer with some good second-hand off-road tires to get it some extra clearance...
Most everyone these days has heard of Amsteel and other similar synthetic ropes. I was wondering what other uses you may have found for it around the camp or in your vehicle.
I first learned of it when I began working on a hammock setup for solo travels as a light weight and fast means of...
My two main knots are the Trucker's Hitch and the Prusik. There's also a simply loop I use for securing our canopy at the beach but I'm not familiar with the name. I've been studying and playing with Amsteel splicing techniques as well. I try to get my kids involved and the oldest and I have...
The folks that ride with me and that I ride with all trust each others judgement. A casual comment about drifting one way or the other is just a friendly warning that one of us saw something in the trail the driver might not have. "You might want to ease driver" or something similar.
We're all...
I've looked at the 857d and the new 891 for a while for mobile HF. Not quite ready to pull the trigger on one just yet though. The 2m side band of the 857 keeps it in the lead though. I love my 897, it was a dream radio and I got a nicely optioned specimen reasonably priced from a local who...
Hello Virginians! We've got the Richmond Frost Fest coming up Feb 2nd.
There will be test sessions there as well as plenty of vendors and used gear! I've already ordered my early bird tickets and will be headed in that morning. If you want to meet up there, just give me a shout!
More Info...
So after a few of these posts about the 710 and since the 400 is back ordered, I called HRO and they let me exchange the 400 for the 710 without any issue. Steve at the store in Woodbridge was awesome about it and said it should be shipped out today and arrive either tomorrow or Monday! WOOT...
Welcome Josh!
As a fellow X owner, I would recommend you check into www.thenewx.org for info specific to the second gen Xterras. I'm over there as well, same username, check it out!
There's also lots of info on general Xterra issues as well as plenty of help in choosing lift parts to get you...
You don't normally mount a coms radio in the dash with your stereo. It's normally mounted under the dash or on the side of the console unless you get the remote head like the FTM-400XDR and put the radio under a seat with the head unit on the dash.
