Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Kind of bummed I missed out on that sale. I've been throwing around the idea of moving from my hammock setup to a RTT but man are they expensive when they're not on sale. Funny thing is, my wife and I just went through all of our sleeping gear last night and we've got almost a grand tied up in...
So I'm headed up to Arkansas for a long weekend on the High Water Mark Trail on the weekend of the 13th with some buddies. I'll be in my Lifted WK2 Grand Cherokee, one buddy is in his XJ and another is taking is RWD mid-2000s 4Runner. We're tackling the trail coming from the southeast, which...
I just noticed that you're right down the road from me! I'm in the Prairieville/Gonzales area. Next time I'm pointing my Grand Cherokee at the forest, I'll have to shoot you an invite. I've got a couple of friends that I wheel with in the winter because of the dang heat we've got down here...
The hiking is great in Kisatchie, that's where we do most of our backpacking. The Backbone trail is awesome and is what got us addicted to camping in the first place. I've done only minor scouting over there for over landing, but I can send you the route we took last time. There are a lot of...
Yeah, I've been quite disappointed with what MS has to offer. The best wheeling that I've found this far south was in the Ozarks/Ouachita mountains in Arkansas. We've hit kisatchie and Desoto and were fairly underwhelmed, as well. Still have a lot of exploring left to do in Kisatchie though
We just got back from a day trip to the south side of Homochitto, and I ran into a bunch of closed or decommissioned roads. Nothing wild out there at all since the roads with ruts are blocked off.
Did you find any decent routes or spots to try out?
Weight was a big concern for me in this design, so I tried to shed as much as I could. Loading in material properties and not accounting for weld beads and accessories, Solidworks projects it would weigh roughly 35lbs
I'll be using tslot extrusions for my future drawer system and almost used it...
I was looking at mount options this morning for gear and I think the only this I will buy off the shelf is the high lift jack mount from X-Bull. I probably need to order my light bars and spot lights before I start fabrication so I can properly design the spacing of everything.
I actually did...
Roof racks are expensive, and I am quite cheap. What am I to do? Make my own dang roof rack! Only one thing: I've never had one and I don't know what all I would like to incorporate in it.
What do yall wish that your roof rack had built into it? So far I've got a render of a pretty basic...
So we hit up County Rd 600-2 while we were in Cheaha State Park and I'm amazed that they still call that a road. Talk about a lot of fun for some novice off roaders! Got to use those fake e-lockers on the grand cherokee a couple of times due to heavily washed out areas. Definitely earned some...
Looking at their Facebook page, it looks like they took the Cades Cove scenic trail. One of my coworkers said that its a great ride, but like Ru108 said, its mostly paved. Definitely on our to-do list, though! I'll keep digging to see if they took anything that is more 4x4-esque.
Great info...
I love my Hennessy Hammock. Its a little pricey, but it's got a built in bug net and a factory installed ridgeline. If you don't have a ridgeline on your hammock, I highly recommend putting one on yours. It loosens up the hammock a little bit and lets you sleep on a better diagonal. Plus you get...
Hello Adventurers! My future wife and I get married this Friday and are headed to Gatlinburg for our honeymoon. We are road tripping from Baton Rouge and stopping in Talledega for a night before heading on to the only Ten I See. I got a yard pass to do some wheeling during the trip, and I was...
You could always get a good ole Bronco II. Most stuff for Rangers and Exploders from the same year range fit them. Plus they're usually dumb cheap and don't need much to fit 35's if thats a route you want to go. For your budget, you can redo the interior to make it nice and cushy. I may be...
I've got Cooper Discoverer AT3s on my wk2. I've only took it into minor slop and sand as far as off roading is concerned and they did great. No howl except for at 35mph and even then I don't hear it over the radio
As long as you're smart about the line you take on some of those spur trails, I wouldn't worry too much about being 2wd. The main Forest Service roads are pretty well maintained. I saw a Nissan Versa driving through the main service road 332, so I'm sure you'll be fine
Nice! If you ever get to wanting to do some backpacking, the Backbone Trail in Kisatchie has a couple of cliffs off of the beaten path that I like to camp off of
