Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
A lot of the trails in Kisatchie are seasonal. We do a bit of backpacking in the forest and most of the trail markers show what days the trail is open. The MVUM for the forest districts have a legend on the bottom with when which trail is open for planning your route. A large portion of them...
Just picked up a Tuff Stuff Delta RTT since our last trip was a bit rough sleeping in hammocks. My wife and I froze our butts off, even though we both had 20* sleeping bags, under quilts, rainflys, and a blanket draped over the ridgelines. Guess that's what we get for camping next to a mountain...
I usually pack either Angel's Envy or Larceny on our trips for my sippin whisky, then Crown for my mixin whisky. Crown is also my decoy whisky in case someone in my crew decides what's mine is theirs and what theirs is also their's
I'm with you on wanting to stay with one or the other for tubing. I'd have to see a sketch on what you're thinking for that tubing, but that'd be pretty beefy depending on the thickness you get. If you design the round tubing portion well, you can get some decent strength out of it. I'm going...
Thanks, I highly recommend getting a pipe notcher and full 1" EMT if you don't use thin wall round tube. I did some destructive testing with 1/2 and 3/4 and it's definitely worth the slight upcharge for the 1".
I also probably spent about a third of the construction time getting the zinc...
Thanks! Yeah, it's 1" EMT and is light enough that I can move it around by myself without breaking a sweat. It's probably around 35-40 pounds with the removable side rails attached.
Heavy means strong, though! I gave up the ability to get a nice 270* awning, and we will see if it was worth the...
So I stuck pretty close to the last design, but during mock up we noticed that the front rung would hit the sunroof when it was in vent mode. I also changed up the way that the removable sections worked. Just need to fabricate the mounts and paint it!
Looking forward to this build! I drove a 2001 Ranger for about 8 years and so this platform has a special place in my heart. It looks a lot better without the side steps, but I think some good rock sliders would toughen up the look. Can't comment on the crash bars, but I think a good 2-3" lift...
FYI, there is a dang good sale going on at both Tuff Stuff 4x4 and Offroad Tents websites. I snagged a Tuff Stuff Delta for just over $800. It was actually 30 bucks cheaper than their Trailhead is normally, plus free freight shipping. I was so close to buying the TS Ranger, but the $500...
I haven't forgotten about this project, I promise! I realized that before I could settle on a design, I had to settle on the roof top tent I was going to buy. I ended up ordering a Tuff Stuff Delta, which supposedly has dimensions of 48"x52"x14", so I threw together a rough model and it was...
Did you download it to your computer first? You have to go to your account, click upload, then it will give you the option to select to file. It says that it can only do GPX, KML, or FIT, but it works with KMZ as well
So we didn't get to do the entire trail this trip since we didn't cover enough ground on the first day thanks to my smart self leaving the propane regulator at the house. I probably could have gotten by cooking over the fire, but someone else needed to get better thermals so we ended up running...
I've got some coworkers headed to CO for the week of Christmas and I'm quite jealous. I've never been, but I've heard that it is beautiful up there. +25F is cold enough, I couldn't imagine -25F lol
For some reason I didn't even think of the leaves on the trail. I was more enthralled with the chance of snow since us Louisiana boys don't see too much of it. But then the weather took a turn and doesn't look like we will see any precipitation of the fluffy variety.
Now that I've actually sat down to look at it, that looks like the same one I was using.
We did vehicle checks over the weekend and some last minute mods (buddy wanted disc brakes instead of drums on his XJ) and we're looking like we're good to go. The low for the weekend is still showing in...
Welcome! My uncle has a line on a small boat trailer that would be perfect for conversion to a kayak trailer. I was thinking about building in a couple of storage compartments for gear and paddles. That is, if I can convince my wife to let me take on a 6th major project at the same time lol
I've been wanting to go kayak that for a while now. My wife and I both have some 15' boats that we do expedition paddling in, I just would like to use a trailer instead of my roof rack for that long of a drive (8 hours from BR, LA)
Thanks, I'll load that up into Gaia and save it for reference. We've got a chainsaw and a mess of hand axes, so I'm hoping we will be good to go. His lift is more of a level spacer, so maybe only 2 inches in the front. I'll have to see how his tires are looking when we do pre-trip vehicle checks...
Good to hear! Someone I work with made a run to Jasper a couple weekends ago and said he had to turn back due to ice on the road. How was the water level when you were there? The Buffalo Crossing worries me a little wince we've got an older XJ with us and I don't trust his door seals lol
If anyone is interested in joining in on a trip to the Ozarks, me and a couple buddies are headed there for Dec 12-16 to run the High Water Mark Trail. We'd be leaving Baton Rouge on the Thursday morning and getting back the Monday afternoon.
