    M101A Trailer

I don't think there is a difference between M101A2, A3 I am fairly sure the A1 used a different bolt pattern. Having owned a military trailer A2 version I would suggest axle replacement to something that has the same bolt pattern as your rig so spares are universal. Other then direct...

Getting it done on the Cheap

I am also considering building my own skid plates not just because I want to but having a rig that is not US market and importing them would be ridiculously expensive.

    Ground Clearance

Stock ground clearance for 2014 Ram 1500 is listed at 8.6" where as stock ground clearance for 1997 LX450 (Land Cruiser) is 10.8" does that 2.2" buy you something, not sure? I have found the #1 assistance in larger tires is ability to break over an object and increased height of rocker panels...

    How to Justify the Spending

There is times where I can't justify it and don't. I refuse to stop exploring just more on foot, camping, backpacking or short local trips.

    is it a good idea?

I am also under the opinion that welding a d-ring onto a stock bumper would be a bad idea for any real load (Like recovery). Even if you cut a slot in the bumper and welded it behind the bumper you would have limited material to support the load. Think you are on the correct path.

Just getting into overlanding, looking for rig suggestions?

Hi Jordan! Very few people have converted 80 series and even fewer have converted 100s. In my opinion the 100 is a much better daily driver (have owned both) but if you have your eyes set on a diesel conversion I think the 80 is a better candidate. 6cyl is a very heavy engine closer to 4bt...

Lockers/ LSD for DD OB Rig

I have been a huge fan of the Assuie Locker but living in CA I don't have to deal with a lot of ice. I have had my rig in the snow without any real issues besides slowing down and being more careful which is a good thing anyway. They are better on long wheel base with automatic transmissions...

Why Do You Like to Camp

Camping is just about the only time where I feel connected and the stress of doing something day in and day out that seems so unnatural as a human starts to fade. Being completely surrounded in nature with vastly different sensory inputs (ones that make sense) away from the ridiculousness that...

    Vehicle Flood Checklist

I appreciate the article it follows guidelines that I have seen before. I would be interested in seeing what is suggested RIG prep for extended time in water, such as diff/trans breathers, seals (Birfields), distributor sealing/gasket check, etc. Not everyone can drive a Unimog so it might be a...

Getting it done on the Cheap

Would that include the Baofang baofeng uv-5r as a HT? Damn good for $25 ditch the rubber duck or exterior mount key into repeaters (Provided licensed to do so).

What is your favorite overlanding movie, video, book, story, or inspiration?

Again not really overloading but one of my favorites was "Adrift" man lost at sea in a raft for 76 days.

    Toolbox compressor

Nice setup! Only thing that I'd consider is having an external 2 pin adapter so you don't need to open the hood unless you have a second rear battery / remote posts in your rig?

Any ideas on repurposing this for use in overland rig?

I am not sure what you would use this for in a rig? maybe power communication equipment for a relatively short period of time, interior 110v lights. In my opinion you will pay a price to have such a device, such as weight, space and annoyance. These are really designed to give you just enough...

Getting it done on the Cheap

As far as winches go I agree I went the smittybuilt XRC 9.5K route seemed to be a good value for the money and it has pulled my rig several times fully loaded without any issues.

Removing Gear from Rig Until Needed

I currently don't use my daily driver as my expo rig, but when I did power was a problem if it wasn't unloaded. If I recall correctly its about 9.4lbs / 1HP with the LX450 @ 212hp ever one of those counted. I removed everything that wasn't needed including seats (rear) and anything that wasn't...

Getting it done on the Cheap

How do you feel about Harbor Freight? I know there is a lot of opinion (Especially around Bandland winches) but I have not actually heard anyone who has had one speak badly. There is also the question previously posted about baskets. Anyone use their blocks? Too great of a risk or worth...

    Synthetic winch cable vs Steel

If it hasn't been mentioned with use of Synthetic suggest buying a winch cover to keep the line out of the sun. Just out of the safety mentions and weight savings I'd go synthetic.

Getting it done on the Cheap

In this case Toyota Land Cruiser would likely be your choice... world wide likely the most common 4x4 but not a cheap solution while you still need to pay for parts and accessories. Nissan and Jeep have the LC beat in that market. The price gap really narrows when you can do your own fabrication.
