Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

That is exactly why it is taking me so long to get travel ready. Working on the SCAMP for the travel end and rigging the LRD2 for the off highway boon docking type travel and camp out. I'm older and fatter than you but my SCAMP would never be able to handle the rough terrain of a lot of trails I want to follow or carve. My LRD2 has enough space for a single occupant and gear with the help of my roof rack. And there is always the tent if the weather is cooperative. It's a game of when and where if it's not instate overlanding. If you come this way you can park your trailer here and roam the areas more rugged forest roads, camp out and when your ready for the next stretch of travel you can return here for your trailer.

mine is a 2018 and all i did was install a leveling kit and swapped out tires with some Toyo Open Country M/Ts 275/65s. I had an ARE shell back in the 90s on my dodge ram and liked it and went with ARE again. while i'm waiting for the shell (4-6 weeks lead time) i'll start on a slide out base between the wheel wells. the long heavy duty 60" slides are $250+ per pair and I need 2 pairs, so i am building my own slides with roller skate bearings and either square tubing or 1" angle. i'll post some pics for anyone needing a long slide out drawer without spending so much just for the slides. i'm using a roof basket for kayak and lp tank, but most gear and food will be in the slide out base
like Lanlubber said about his SCAMP, some terrain is just too rough or harder to access with even a small camp trailer in tow, so that is why i'm doing a camper shell build out in addition to my offroad camp trailer. i'm not fast and lean anymore, but that's still how i like to travel!

I wanna see your build too. I have been knocking my head against the wall trying to figure out just what I can do cheaply with my LRD2 interior. I found this at Restore Habitat for $10. Its a legal size heavy duty filing cabinet that should be usable for my interior build. So far I plan to build a shell around this cab that will include a ref space next to it and solar battery cabinet on the back side of this cab. The cabinet is 30"x30"x 24". See attachment !

I've got the same ARE Overland camper shell. I ordered it with the roof rack for Yakima cross bars, dual LED light bar strips inside the shell as well as the lining called Bed Rug. I should have ordered it with the sliding window closest to the cab so I can clean it easier. Was trying to save a buck.
Once you get your camper shell you will notice some bolts coming through the roof due to your railings (for your rooftop basket). I bought these ring nuts to put around them so then I can attach a web net to the ceiling to hang stuff when I'm in there. I also got some reflective insulation to keep it cool in the Summer.

LOVE IT! that's exactly what i'm shooting for. i saw the bed rug and definitely getting that for insulation and asthetics. The ring nuts are a brilliant idea, i will surely use that and attach a cargo net or similar. the wife sews, so she'll make some nice black out curtains and that will be a wrap. i will add a small solar panel and 35ah battery just for extra 12v to run lights and a fan when its hot and probably going to set up a small 12v pump to use with my portable lp water heater for that quick hot shower at the end of the day. i can go lean and very minimal, but i can't go stinky!

Most welcome, we're thinking along the same lines. I have a solar setup and battery and inverter in mine as well, mini fan, etc. Here's what it kinda looks like inside (I removed stuff due to Winter).

that's a nice cabinet, especially paying less for it than one set of slides cost at home depot! plenty of storage for food and clothes and you can mount stuff to the sides if needs be.

What is the dark grey rug looking stuff you have on the bed and where can it be bought. I want to use this on the inside walls and ceil of my SCAMP trailer. I've seen it before being installed on the inside of a van and it stretches over the humps and bumps nicely, perfect for the rounded inside of a SCAMP trailer. Thanks for the pic's. I'd like to see that set up you have for the solar devises (?) if that is what you have tucked in on top of your driver side wheel well.

It's called a Bed Rug found here - Bedrug. They are custom made for the bed of the truck. The stick using heavy duty velcro to the inside of the walls of the bed and in my case the tailgate as well.
Yes above the driver's side wheel well is my solar / electric DIY section. The 100W solar panel is on the roof of the cabin, then into the bed connected to the 30AMP PWN solar charge controller to fuse box to 100AMP AGM solar battery to 1000W inverter.
In this picture you see the solar cables coming down from roof of cab in-between the rear window then into bed of truck. Black bag on the floor is where I keep the battery.

Went to take the Cherokee out in the snow and discovered the 4 wheel drive isn’t working. Have to figure out what’s wrong with that.

Ohhhhh boy, big car payments. Hope it dosent keep you from your travels. That happened to me years ago when I bought a passenger van for my wife.

Ha ha you mean you didn't have to use a sledge hammer too ? Why is it mechanics make it look so easy. I guess a lift would have been a big help.

Well here’s the thing . The original tie rod had 239,000 miles on it. I couldn’t get those out to save my life, so I bought a new one and new ends. Now, 75,000 miles later, they are still a bear to get out, but doable. They aren’t even rusted.. my mechanic quoted me 2 hours for the job, it took me 3, so he knew what he was in for.. it’s all good though and well understood why Landcruisers don’t come out of alignment. My 04 TJ needed alignment after nearly every off road trip.. I got pretty good at doing my own alignments after a while.

With the exception of my past race cars, I don't do major front end work on my daily drivers. I prefer to leave most of that work to people who have the equipment. I'll do brakes and hub bearing repairs, or tie rod end replacement, but only when I do not change caster, camber, toe in or toe out settings. I recently added 2" lift spacers. The supplier said it wouldn't change the alignment. After driving for about 300 miles I feel a very mild tremor at 40 - 50 mph. So I'm going to have the front end checked for alignment. It's time for a tire re-balance and rotation anyway.
Were your tie rod ends shot after just 75k miles when the first ones lasted beyond 200k ?
