The listings here are a little dead, but there are a LOT of active groups out there. For example, next weekend is the San Diego 4x4 Superstition
Mtn event, with camping/overlanding and a variety of led trail runs. $50/vehicle and info on their site.

Looks like we need to reinvigorate SoCal meetups! I am about halfway through finishing my overlanding trailer and getting my truck set up. We should get something going for march/april timeframe?!
