I’m between a New Rebel or an older Raptor

Pricing is coming down. All Jeep needs now is a decent engine. Hopefully the diesel isn't expensive junk.

Sorry, I can't get on the 3.6l train. The Jeep forums sound like a nightmare. The 2.0 lacks a manual, and the hybrid stuff doesn't have good reviews. And fca doesn't have the best track record with such.

To me Raptor is perfect overland truck, it comfortable on road, gravel and can find you a good camping spot where is not many cars can reach . Rubicon is crap on road but great on rocks. No one is saying the raptor is not awesome, I want one. But I would buy a new rebel over a used raptor any day of the week.

Have you driven a JLUR? We test drove a few, including one with the Mopar 2" lift and 35"s. It drove amazingly well, and I imagine the diesel will only drive that much better with all the torque. A JL Rubi is a very different ride than a JK or TJ.

Just bought a 2019 Rebel, I lucked out and found one in the exact configuration I would have built if I'd ordered it new:
5.7L
NO airbag suspension
NO E-torque bolted on
NO upgraded Info-tainment console
NO glass roof
Quad-Cab (only slightly less roomy than the Crew-Cab, but mine provides a longer bed WITH a shorter wheelbase)

All these options left off really helped me get this thing for a great deal, well inside my budget for a truck I didn't previously consider being able to afford.

I was struggling to make up my mind between a midsize (Tacoma) or full size truck (probably a tundra) until I stumbled across this one for sale... I bought it the next day.
Only thing I wish it came with would be the optional upgraded 33gal fuel tank, might price that out in a few months.

Awesome! You're going to love the truck. We got the fancy sceen, big glass roof and stuff but it's my girlfriend's DD not necessarily an Overlander. I could definitely see leaving those off for a vehicle you plan to Overland. This platform (both frame and body) seem so solid I don't worry a lot about flex, but still having a glass roof the full-length cab (and we have the Crew so the cab is Yuge) seems like a liability offroad. We didn't want, nor order E-Torque either. We also didn't get the air suspension. We had a few reasons (first, she never used it on the '16 JGC we had that the truck replaced, second options for lift/level, third simplicity/reliability of the system when towing, etc.) and we're very happy with how the truck rides. Even with our leveling setup and 35"s it is probably the smoothest, best handling full-frame truck I've ever driven. Also, for your use-case I totally see getting the Quad-Cab and longer bed. Since we ordered we did get the 33 gallon fuel tank, which is nice. I imagine you can retrofit one later...

Then having to think of payments again I decided to take tha 4k I was going to put down and start working on my Stock 2500 mega cab, then I am selling a jet boat after the new year and will get a beater and build it for overlanding where the Ram cant take me.

I'm sorry that dealership soured your enthusiasm for the truck. At least now you have a plan and can custom-build something to suit your exact preferences.
 
wow finally we can put to rest this thread. I'm very happy for person, but people should stop asking question what is better between Raptor, Powerwagon, Rubicon, and ect. Just do research: size of family for the travel, what is expecting off road level, distance, how many time per month week, year....., anyway do research.

it's crap, drives like Jeep Wrangler, not enough space, windshield is righty on face, control looks bad, seat is really bad, rear bench is not even call to sit people there, noisy, plastic roof is just cheesy. And more cheesy when mid age man driving this thing with removed doors and roof. Geez can't stand it .
it's tool not a Car ! And I'm fine with it, if you like it, but never seen myself driving this thing with family its like driving Chrysler PT Cruiser or similar Chevy thing.

Not as cheesy as a truck that pretends it's a 3/4 ton.
 
Pretends , it's good definitions of Wrangler . Not really truck as engine suck, not really everyday car as drives like board , but it's not even off road yet until invest another 3 K lift tires and ect

Ha ha. yes, because that's what a wrangler is, a pretender. Yep. you hit the nail on the head there. Follow me in your fake 3/4 ton and see what happens, sounds like you have a big case of vehicle envy. Every second word was cheesy. As I said before, the only thing cheesy is your truck pretending its a real 3/4 ton.
 
Ok Im biased because I have a Raptor. Its a 2019 and yes I have already drove it pretty hard with no problems. If you want to go slow get the dodge, but if you want 70+ off-road than get the Raptor.
