I have one of the 275's too. It's a nice rig. It's small enough that it mounted on the back side of the console box of my 4Runner. I really like the controls/display on the mic - really easy to use.

I just meant that I know of several people that are going around buying cb gear right now to use as base stations anticipating the DX skip coming up.

I have yet to decide where to mount my receiver. I have a 2000 LRD2 and it's pretty cluttered already with factory stuff. Sounds like a good place to mount on back side of console. I'll look tomorrow. Thanks

DX skip is when you talk outside the typical range... on CB usually means from coast to coast, but in rare occasions it’s possible to talk around the world... back in 1997 I had a DX conversation from my 1960 Willies Wagon running a Uniden 510 Pro and LillWill mag mount antenna to a guy in Sydney, Australia. Does anyone with the Ghost antenna from midland know if the thread pattern for the antenna is the same as a CB? I have a hood channel bracket i want to use for the antenna but it's for a CB. Couldn't find anything on the thread pattern for the ghost antenna.

It's NMO. CB antennas are kind of their own animal when it comes to threading. I run all NMO bases and if I dont' want to run my NMO CB antenna for whatever reason I have a NMO to CB (3/8-24) adapter.

Here's the adapter I'm talking about. So I can run this on either of the NMO mounts I have on my Jeep with something like a fire stick.
But I rarely use that part and just use my NMO CB whip antenna when I do run a CB in the Jeep.

I'm also looking at the 275 over the 400 just for the NOAA unless I'm missing something.

The 275 also comes with it's own little magnetic antenna, though a more permanent antenna is advisable the one provided will certainly get you by.
The difference in power can make a difference if you are really trying to put some distance between you and the other person in which case ham radio may be the better option.
The 15 watt radio should work fine in most cases.
The form factor with the 275 is also much better.
However... Midland is supposed to be coming out with a new 50 watt GMRS mobile radio that is like the 275 with better repeater functionality. I imagine it will have NOAA but haven't seen anything on that yet.

Say whaaat??? Sounds interesting. My main reason for going with the 275 was the buttons on the mic so i can stash the main unit in the console.

I have had the midland 275 since they came out. Works pretty well. A couple of weeks ago I was out in very remote western Nm and picked up a repeater and listened to some guys from WA talk to a. Guy in Houston. I could not talk to them as I was too far from the repeater on my power. So a 50 watt radio would be pretty cool to have

I hope Prerunner1982 is right about Midland coming about with basically a 50 watt version of the 275. But in the mean time I have schedule my Ham test this week so I hope to have my license soon.

I installed my MXT275 behind the carpet next to the passenger's left foot and simply ran the mic out from under the dash. Works great and so easy to install.
